Serena Williams Makes A Fool Of Herself And Deserves Punishment

Serena Williams offered no apology and showed no remorse for her behavior during her U.S. Open semifinal loss to Kim Clijsters, 6-4, 7-5.

Her tirade toward U.S. Open to lineswoman goes beyond those of McEnroe and Nastase in earlier days, especially as she shows no remorse. She should be heavily fined and suspended.

Bill Dwyre. September 13, 2009

Let's get right to the point. Serena Williams should be fined heavily and suspended for a while from the pro tennis tour.

FOR THE RECORD: A column in Sunday's Sports section about Serena Williams' loss in the U.S. Open semifinals said Williams' outburst at a lineswoman began when she was called for a foot fault on her first serve at 15-40. Actually, Williams was called for a foot fault on her second serve at 15-30.

Let's see what kind of guts the normally soft-on-discipline sport of tennis has this time. If she were an Oregon football player, she'd be out for the season.

If you saw it on television, you know what happened, you know that she made a fool out of herself Saturday night in an ugly incident at the U.S. Open. If you didn't see it, we'll confirm it:

The quick details are:

* She was given a point penalty on match point, which meant she lost her semifinal to Kim Clijsters, 6-4, 7-5.

* She was given the point penalty because, after a linesperson called a foot fault on her first serve at 15-40, she went over to the linesperson, shook her fist at her, and from just several feet away, said, according to several witnesses courtside, "You don't know me. You better be right. I could shove this ball down your throat." Interspersed with this were several F-bombs.

Agreed. She needs to be suspended and fined even more heavily. If she is permitted to play the doubles' final, it will be a crying shame.

Like many others, I just finished watching the women's final match. The class and grace exhibited by those two young women, both on the court and after the match, is what should be celebrated.

Don't care if Serena is an American ... she does not deserve to be supported by Americans. She is a nothing more than a foul-mouthed thug that can't control her emotions or temper, and can't even seem to come up with an apology or an ounce of regret.

Who the hell does she thinks she is? The President

Or maybe Kayne West? This guy is equally classless. He interrupted Taylor Swift’s acceptance speech on 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. You can view it here. You will probably need to scroll down the page a bit to view the video. West and Williams are both absolutely classless.

So I heard an explaination from this thug. She said that she didn’t think the line judge understood that it was a match point. WHAT A COMPLETE A_HOLE! As if that makes any difference. If she stepped on the line she stepped on the line. The rules of tennis do not change subject to the importance of a point. Neither do the rules regarding player behavior. Obviously SHE knew what points were at stake, and yet she still (reportedly) stepped on the line and abused an official. Now she wants to blame the official. She is a real class act.

I really hope she is suspended, but it should’ve happened already. She’s playing doubles tomorrow. It’s outrageous.

she was trying to pull the NBA defense... some "stars" get to walk, camp out in the paint, shove their way in, don't have to dribble and generally act like ghetto thugs...

Doncha know who she was... she actually has to NOT FOOT FAULT... oh my gawd!!!

Then she acted like, with a frickin smirk on her face.., "gee, I don't know why she'd be afraid of me...I've never even been in a fight.".

Well how about the fact that you're about 8 inches taller, 70 to 90 pounds heavier and could f'ing sit on her with your fat a## and squash the woman... but you had a racquet in your hand and were shaking it at her and threatening to shove it down her "f#$@ing throat"...

Nah... no reason to feel threatened. What world does this diva wanna be think she lives in?

Serena and Kanye are getting married. They both deserve each other.

They’re getting married in Las Vegas at the Low Class Trash Chapel of Scum Love.

I wonder if they could both be “racists”? Nah, they’re “African Hyphen American’s”, they can’t be “racists”. Can they?

I say the whole thing on TV (sports coverage). She said “I will shove this f’ing ball down your f’ing throat!”

I actually backed up the DVR and hit record so that I could review it over again. She told the line judge "I feel like taking this ball and shoving it down your fu**ing throat ... do you hear me? I swear to God you made me mad and (unintelligible) you ought to be fu**king glad that (something about the point) ...

"Not a death threat, but a threat of violence."

The words about killing the judge didn't come at that time (if they ever came). Serena had gone back to the baseline to serve and when the line judge got back to her chair, Serena suddenly pointed at her again, moved in her direction a few steps, repeatedly jabbed her finger at the judge and said something that didn't come through on the audio. THAT is when the little judge ran back to the net area and the tournament official said "what did she say?". THAT is when the judge reported the death threat and everyone got really concerned.

Given Serena's body language and her size as compared to the line judge, there was definitely a reason to be unnerved.

Chump change, will have no effect on her, she should be suspended for a while to make her really digest her behavior, right now I don’t think the tennis world, fans and athletes alike, think too highly of her at the moment. Wonder what the fan reaction will be like tomorrow when she shows up to play there in lib mecca N.Y.?

They will take it from the $350,000 check they are handing her for making the semifinals.

they really are strict with the men on the ATP tour, but I've always suspected Martina Navratilova and Serena of steroids. Just too big in the bottom with arms that are ripped with very little subcutaneous fat.

It would be easy to find out because all they have to do is start random hair, urine and blood testing all year like cyclists and watch what Serena's body becomes after a year of strict testing.

Eh.. but that would be too easy, not politically correct and go against the big minority/politically correct push by the USTA.

Sure makes you wonder whose names are in the Balco case..... but gee, what are the chances of a girl from Compton California getting a hold of the "clear" or some other androgen/growth hormone precursor? Then maybe finding masking agents that are either diuretics or substances to alkalanize your urine in order to mask tests....

I'm just curious.... lots of anger this week at the US Open by Serena.
