Arrest Made in Erin Andrews Peeping Tom Case (ESPN Sideline Reporter)
TMZ.com ^ | 10/02/09 | Staff

TMZ has learned an arrest has been made in the Erin Andrews Peeping Tom case -- the one in which the ESPN reporter was secretly videotaped walking around naked in various hotel rooms.

We're told 48-year-old Michael David Barrett was arrested at Chicago O'Hare International Airport in Chicago for interstate stalking.

The videotapes surfaced in July. The six clips showed Erin walking around two different hotel rooms in the nude, and were shot with a peephole camera. It was virtually impossible to tell when or where the videos were shot.

Someone tried to sell the clips to TMZ, but we refused to buy or air them because they were an obvious invasion of Erin's privacy

I need to see the clips in question to make any final judgment on guilt.

"Good, scum like this guy need to be humiliated."

Thanks to several "violence against women" statutes passed during the '90's, Interstate Stalking (Title 18 § 2261A) is a federal offense which carries a sentence of 5 years, presuming no one was physically injured - much longer if someone is harmed. If they want to get tough, I can think of a few other charges they could tack on which would enhance the sentence.

Definite Not Guilty!!!!

I believe she was the victim in this case. But if she did break any laws by being nekkid in a hotel room, you are right.

From what I understand, the pervy website that initially hosted the video didn't even know they had a video of Andrews until ESPN attorneys sent them a cease and desist letter. The video had been posted for some time (months) before anyone made the connection.

TMZ reported earlier that there were several, perhaps dozens of similar videos posted on the same site of non-famous women. The consensus evolved that it was just your typical pervert who happened to snare a celebrity.

Andrews' lawyer, Marshall Grossman from the law firm Bingham & McCutchen tells TMZ Barrett allegedly contacted hotels in the various venues "where Andrews was working in order to locate her and her room number, and some of the hotels revealed that information, permitting him to target her." Grossman says Barrett would remove the peepholes from the doors -- or as the complaint states, "hacked off" -- and inserted tiny camera devices to secretly film her.

That's updated information from when they first published the story. And, it's pretty conclusive that this guy really targeted her - a bit of a change from the earlier speculation. And, even more creepy.

A new use for duck tape!

Would also seem to require some activity fairly obviously suspicious to anybody walking down the hall.

Really, why go through so much trouble? This pervert could have saved himself time and heartache if he got himself a real life, a girlfriend, or at least got a video/mag and popped off a few knuckle babies. Why do this to another human that clearly wants nothing to do with you? Get a friggin life and stop being a perv.

A guy I work with said he saw the video. His comment was that it was just too contrived - she’s standing naked in the hotel room conveniently checking her clothes, fixing her hair, doing some movements as if she knows...

He’s the type that’s watched the Paris Hilton, Lohan, Kardashian, etc type of tapes - as perved as this peeping tom was, as I reminded him, he still was convinced somehow there’s a ‘oops it’s out, I’m on ESPN, great career lift’

FWIW.
