Russia's population has fallen by 6.6 million since 1993, despite the influx of millions of immigrants, a United Nations report said Monday, and by 2025 the country could lose a further 11 million people.

...Russia's mortality rate is among the highest in the developed world, with average life expectancy for males at barely 60 years....

A study published in June in The Lancet medical journal found that drinking has caused more than half of deaths among Russians aged 15 to 54 since the 1991 Soviet collapse.

60 years is the average life expectancy. I guess that explains why no one's holding up Russia's health care system as the best model.

The men all drink themselves to death, and the Russian socialized healthcare system is beyond awful.

Wikipedia ‘In 2001, 1,320,000 children were born in Russia, while 1,800,000 abortions were performed.’

I remember Peter Drucker, the great management guru, observing over thirty years ago that Russia had a declining life expectancy, that it was the only developed nation that had a reversal in life length, and that portended a decline in the USSR.

He called it long before the Soviet Union fell, simply based on demographics.

Iran is in that position today.

They are right about the drinking part.

I have seen Russians and Ukrainians drink and it is mind boggling how much they can consume at one sitting.

A large, empty country will soon attract settlers from adjoining areas. The Chinese are already starting to move in.
