We didnt think the Polanski matter could get a whole lot stranger. But it has. And given the way this situation has unfolded in the last couple days, were going to go out on a limb and say that we think its going to get a lot weirder before all is said and done.
The news: Over at the Daily Beast today, Marcia Clark (yes, that Marcia Clark; the prosecutor in the OJ Simpson murder trial) writes a piece which, if true, could hurt Polanskis case going forward.
The background requires a quick trip back to the late 1970s. Polanski pleaded guilty in 1977 to engaging in unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. According to a variety of reports, Polanski pleaded guilty partly because the prosecution had sought probation rather than a lengthy prison sentence. Prior to sentencing, however, Polanski got word that the judge on the case, Laurence Rittenband, was planning to shift gears and instead imprison him for a long time. So Polanski fled to England, and then to France, where hes spent most of the past 31 years.
So what happened in between Polanskis guilty plea and his sentencing? According to a 2008 documentary, called Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired, (which wed imagine is showing up on Netflix queues with much more frequency now than it was a week ago) a Los Angeles prosecutor named David Wells confessed to buttonholing Rittenband out of the presence of Polanskis lawyer and convinced him to impose a sentence that included prison time.
Last year, after the documentary came out, Polanskis lawyers filed a request in Los Angeles to have the case dismissed, as a result of prosecutorial and judicial misconduct.

Does Cokie Roberts still have a job??
;-)
lol
Which of his lies are we to believe?
yeah, I saw this lying prosecutor the other night. Yeah, Polanski should be tossed into prison. The lying prosecutor should be their too.
“Marcia Clark (yes, that Marcia Clark; the prosecutor in the OJ Simpson murder trial”
You mean the disastrous, affirmative action so-called attorney? She had a guy covered with blood, cuts on his hands, his own DNA all over the place, bloody glove etc., and couldn’t get a guilty verdict.
I had hoped we’d not hear from her again.
Is it illegal to lie in a documentary? He was not under oath or an officer of the court at the time. Not that it was a good thing.
I believe she had a great record with convictions. Their mistake was not moving the case and instead leaving in downtown LA.
Lying to a reporter is hardly a crime.
So it’s Marcia Clark’s fault that jury would NEVER EVER convict OJ for killing a white woman and a jewish guy.
GIVE ME A BREAK
He’s playing a game. People in positions of power who are into playing games should be held to an extreme level of prejudice. Here in NJ there was a County Prosecutor who used his position to enrich himself and his family. After he was caught and ran off to Las Vegas and put a bullet into his head, thereby preventing the people of his county get justice, all this sympathy went toward his widow. I said she should have picked up his jail time as well. She enjoyed the wages of his sin.
Marcia Clark had a lot of help in making a mess out of the OJ trial. She was, along with her associates, incompetent, most of their witnesses were not believable and the judge was/is an idiot.
She had nothing to do with his acquittal and you know it the jury said f you to whitey and the Lapd
Clark is a piss poor lawyer. I don’t care what she writes or says.
atta girl....stick together now.
The two BIGGEST mistakes in the OJ trial were:
1. The DA (Gil Garcetti) - he decided to allow the trial in downtown LA, instead of Brentwood where the crime occurred.
2. Judge Ito - he decided to allow race in as an issue at the trial.
Marcia Clark’s column:

Marcia Clark and the whole prosecution team got railroaded by a wealthy Football star!
Judge Lance Ito screwed the pooch on his only shot at a real judge!
Chris Darden tried to save a lost case, but hurt it instead.
Mark Furhman killed the prosecution by lieing on the stand.
The whole freakin’ thing was another media circus put on by the defense lawyers for $$$!
They ALL screwed the justice system and those of us that believe in that system.
We KNOW who sticks together, no matter the crime.
