Following in David Letterman's footsteps, Jimmy Kimmel confirmed this weekend that he is involved in a relationship with one Molly McNearney, a long time staffer and the current co-head writer on his show. In the version given to People, a source close to the show (i.e. probably Kimmel's publicist) says they've been dating for several months now after Kimmel broke up with Sarah Silverman and McNearney broke up with an unnamed boyfriend.
Also, says this insider (flack), the situation is nothing like Letterman's situation because "during work hours, they keep things professional."
The news will come as no surprise to Gawker readers whom were alerted to a possible Kimmel-McNearney pairing a full fifteen months ago, when both were dating other people.
After Gawker ran the anonymous tip about the state of Jimmy Kimmel's romantic life, a "source close to McNearney" went to Defamer (this was before the sites merged) to vociferously deny the tale:
"She is absolutely NOT banging Jimmy Kimmel. She was promoted from assistant to staff writer, and then from staff writer to head writer. Where's the controversy there? That's kinda how it works in this biz. Also, as a matter of interest, Molly has been with her boyfriend for 3 years, and believe it or not was in Africa ministering to orphans when this story broke (that's not sarcasm, I swear). The truth is that one of Jimmy's BFFs works as a writer on the show, and Molly and another writer tried to let him go. He complained to Jimmy, got his job reinstated, and then sought a little revenge via the interwebs. The sad thing is that this is tearing Molly up."
Nope, doesn't sound like Letterman's situation at all.

Don't expect such news about Leno. Leno's wife is tough, she would hurt him in various imaginative ways. Craig Ferguson, maybe.
Yeah, they all are. That's why they're promoted.
Its a violation of ethics rules to have sex with people you have power over. And the power to promote them and give them raises too.
But weren’t these people single?
There is no comparison with what Letterman did. People have relationships with co-workers all the time. It’s where you meet people. Kimmel is not married and can do whatever the hell he pleases. It diminishes what Letterman did to lump him in that category. Which is, of course, what the press wants to happen.
But if he was her boss he held power over her, much like the teacher who sleeps with the adult student. Co-workers are one thing, but a boss and a subordinate are another.
Co-workers, yes. Employees one has jurisdiction over regarding their position (er, ah, job status) and salary, no.
This just goes to show what a cess-pool Hollywood is. They don't even care about appearances anymore.
The BS going around was that Letterman wasn't Married at the time, so it was OK. Nothing like Liberal Moral Equivalency to make things right. /S...
I was a Regional VP at a fortune 500 Corporation. If I did what any of these guys did, I would have been fired. Not only do you put the Company in a Legal and Financial bind, you are personally and financially liable as well.
It’s been beaten into my head at all the PC places I’ve worked that even co-worker dating is frowned upon. Sure, it happens, but I’m one of those rules-following saps.
There are two issues here. Infidelity to one’s spouse is really a private thing, and only appropriate to comment on, say, in the Letterman case, because he made millions mocking Other People’s Infidelities. But the truth is, his relationship with his wife and how sacred it is to them is private.
The main issue here is the highly unethical and socially abusive boss sleeping with his employees, no matter how willing they are. There is an automatic unfairness to both the employee, who has no hand in the situation, and to the other employees, who suffer from the indiscretions both in proximity to the boss and in lack of favor.
It would be completely different if two people were having an affair at work but neither was in a position of superiority over the other.
This explains why Kimmel’s show is so lame, just like Letterman’s. Instead of hiring staff based on talent, they hire based on who will have sex with them.
DON’T get your meat where you make your bread.
They are all pigs. Girls like pigs with money.
The big difference between Kimmel and Letterman:
Kimmel’s actually funny.
Ziggy Zoggy Ziggy Zoggy OY OY OY!
For heavens sake she’s a 31 year old woman. If she wants to sleep with the boss, or anyone else, she’s a big enough girl to know what she’s doing.
He needs ratings. He saw Letterman get press, so he pulled a “Me Too!” to get some print.
Maybe I should get a late night show.
Ho’s like pigs with money.
I agree with you. 100% It’s not over for CBS.
