Since GM's 60-day money-back return policy started, there've been around 150,000 retail sales and only one confirmed return. A manual transmission Corvette was returned after the driver tired of rowing gears. What'd he get instead? An automatic model.

He/she wanted to do it automatically, I guess.

I’ve noticed in the small print that it is a “Money Back Guarantee” or “A $500 incentive.” I’d wager that many dealers put the $500 incentive on the paperwork as a default and many customers don’t catch it. I have to wonder how many have attempted to return the vehicles but got caught in the fine print.
Pure speculation on my part.....

He gave up a Corvette with a floor shift? What was he thinking?

I don’t understand what you mean exactly. In other words the dealer can opt to do either one? $500 or take the car back? because the depreciation is well over $500, so I know what I’d do as a dealer...

They make it sound successful with just one return in 150,000 sales. First, the program started 9/14 so, by the 30-day min rule, the 1st possible return could have only been yesterday. Second, many of the free-car-for-60-days artists will not even start to show up for another month.

A Corvette with an automatic transmission. I'm going to say that again because I just made a Vette-owning colleague cringe. A Corvette with an automatic transmission. I hope they took those uneconomical wide tires off as well and offered him a hybrid option.
I think my friend is going to kill me now.

All of my vehicles, Vettes included, except my minivans have been manual trannies.
A good friend of mine bought a Vette after driving mine. His wife made him buy the slush box. I still will not let him live it down.

The ads have a fine print that says that the $500 rebate is an option instead of the ability to turn it in. My bet is that the dealers add the rebate as a matter of SOP. If the buyer doesn’t catch it, they lose the option to return the vehicle.

All Corvettes are “Floor Shift”. Some happen to be manual while others are automatic. Maybe he has a bum left knee.

The 63s and the 67s are nice. From the 70s on they are butt ugly.

I always liked that body style (60’s Stingrays) best. Got a friend with a blue convertible version. Sweet car.
To: Daffynition
Realize though that the car with the camera inside has a speedo in kilometers/hour (Euro units).
So he’s doing about 100 mph.

Ask any fireman what most of their recent calls are and many will say car fires. They noticed an alarming increase since cash for clunkers happened.

are you talking about arson?
To: nascarnation
Most likely. They say they’re seeing a major spike in car fires.
