“Scareware” makers are the worst!
All of them belong in hell!!!
At work, we have folks falling for their scareware messages. They are cleverly done. Many of them pop up a message that looks IDENTICAL to our Kaspersky VA warning of infections, “click here” for removal. Their executables are different every time, and they appear to come from owned web servers of legit sites. Not much you can do, except for clean up the mess afterwards. We have instructed users to call our helpdesk when encountered by a ‘virus message’, but most people don’t follow directions very well....
Some new technologies for enterprise users are coming along.
Check out Triumfant. It monitors anomalies on your computer, does a deep check, determines it’s garbage and punts it out. Neat tool. Check out the videos on youtube.

Can’t the “good guys” create a program that “answers” scareware by knocking it out? Why just ignore it? I’d buy a program like that...
Most good AV developers do a good job at blocking it, but the malware/scareware developers have ways of dynamically changing their ‘deployments’ to avoid signature detection. Often times, even the best AV developers can be a day or so behind.
I just wish there was a way to fight back - not just be defensive.
