PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- At Cappuccio’s Meats in the Italian Market, the cuts of beef are cutting into the profits. “Every week when I talk to my suppliers, I’m amazed by how much it’s going up,” said owner Domenick Crimi. Beef prices soared more than 10 percent last year according to the Department of Agriculture, and they will likely go up at least another 5 percent this year. “It bumps up a bit, comes down a tiny bit, then it bounces again, and when it bounces, it goes up another dime, 15, 20 cents,” said Crimi, “and sometimes that’s in a...

It was bound to happen sooner or later. Barack Obama wants to have some "fun" at the expense of republicans by asking lefties to give their email addresses to his re-election campaign. Why? So Obama campaign workers can spam your inbox with lefty propaganda. The Obama presidential campaign is launching an effort to collect Republican email addresses by inviting its supporters to submit information about their Republican associates to the Obama 2012 website. The effort could help the Obama campaign build a database that would enable it to target Republican voters during the general election campaign. But, more perniciously, it could also become part of an Democratic effort...

I have a rare coin, specifically a 1 Quetzel, Guatamala 1925 in XF condition. I have priced things a little under the competition and am not doing the Ebay way, but rather non-traditional ways to sell it, such as Craigslist. Craigslist has local, focused areas, and so I put the ad in the Manhattan, Financial District. But, I don't know for such a coin (know that there are only 3000 of this coin in existence) what the best market would be. Anyone have any advice? Some hold this world view that government must be central in our lives and serve as our caretaker - they seek more than equal opportunity, they seek equal outcomes. Those in the White House today don't believe in American exceptionalism, they'd rather emulate the failed policies of Europe. But we see what their policies have led to. 14 million Americans out of work. 45 million Americans on food stamps. And according to WSJ, nearly half of Americans receive government assistance. I’ve been warning of this for well over two years. My primary warnings were: 1) That 2008 was just a warm-up 2) That the REAL Crisis had yet to unfold 3) That the REAL Crisis would make 2008 look like a picnic Well, the period I’ve been warning of is now here. What’s happening right now is not just a market crash, bear market, deflation, or any other item related to just one asset class. Instead, this is a collapse of the entire US monetary and political system and the mentality of spending one’s way to wealth. For 80+ years,...

I’ve lived in Texas throughout the entirety of the Perry administration. He hasn’t been the most awful governor we might have had, but in truth, he’s been mediocre. It is true to say that Perry deserves a little credit for the better economic conditions in the state, insofar as he’s done no particular harm. On the other hand, it’s fair to say that part of the reason Perry’s done no particular harm, and perhaps the sole reason he hasn’t damaged the economy, is because the Texas people, through their legislature, won’t let him. The governor’s real shortcomings are not to...

If you read online reviews before purchasing a product or service, you may not always be reading the truth. Review sites are becoming targets for "opinion spam" -- phony positive reviews created by sellers to help sell their products, or negative reviews meant to downgrade competitors. The bad news: Human beings are lousy at identifying deceptive reviews. The good news: Cornell researchers are developing computer software that's pretty good at it. In a test on 800 reviews of Chicago hotels, a computer was able to pick out deceptive reviews with almost 90 percent accuracy. In the process, the researchers discovered...

Rustock, at its peak, was a botnet of around 2 million spam-sending zombies capable of sending out 30 billion spam email per day. Microsoft's wholesale slaughter of Rustock could reduce worldwide spam output by up to 39%. Rustock was taken down, piece by piece, in a similar way to the Mega-D botnet. SAN DIEGO - Carnival Cruise Lines said Thursday although Spam was among the food items delivered to the stranded Splendor, the canned meat was not served to guests. "Despite media reports to the contrary, Carnival Splendor guests were never served Spam!" Carnival said on Twitter. The U.S. Navy Tuesday delivered food items to Splendor that Carnival ordered in the wake of the ship's four-day shutdown after an engine fire. Photos of Navy helicopters dropping crates of Spam sparked the term "Spam-cation." "We gave our food order to a supplier, not the Navy. The Navy kindly delivered the goods, (and) Spam...

You may not have noticed, but since late last month, the world supply of Viagra ads and other e-mail spam has dropped by an estimated one-fifth. With 200 billion spam messages in circulation each day, there is still plenty to go around. But police officials in Russia, a major spam exporter, say they are trying to do their part to stem the flow. On Tuesday, police officials here announced a criminal investigation of a suspected spam kingpin, Igor A. Gusev. They said he had probably fled the country. Moscow police authorities said Mr. Gusev, 31, was a central figure in...

So, to those of you who keep blaming Obama for pandering to Muslims but were oh so quiet when Bush did no different, and now exhibit the imbecile quality of missing this utter screw-up, I don’t join you because I actually knew and know what is going on. I pay attention, and you only wake up when someone on the other side of the aisle does the same as your own alleged ideological bed partners. And that’s why we’ll get more fine examples of mediocrity and jeopardy in both Bush and Obama. I don’t know how you expect better behavior...
