Are these pilots, or just spam in a can? On Sept 25th 2008, China launched a Shenzhou VII spacecraft starting their third manned space mission. The three man crew of "taikonauts" (that's Chinaspeak for astronauts) includes mission Commander Zhai Zhigang, Liu Boming and Jing Haipeng. All three men are 42 years old and all are pilots from the People's Liberation Army Air Force. Commander Zhigang will perform an EVA during the mission, becoming the first Chinese taikonaut to do a spacewalk. It's too bad they don't have Laika the Russian space dog with them. If they did, they could take...

John McCain announced that he was running for president to confront the "transcendent challenge" of the 21st century, "radical Islamic extremism," contrasting it with "stability, tolerance and democracy." But the values of his handpicked running mate, Sarah Palin, more resemble those of Muslim fundamentalists than they do those of the Founding Fathers. On censorship, the teaching of creationism in schools, reproductive rights, attributing government policy to God's will and climate change, Palin agrees with Hamas and Saudi Arabia rather than supporting tolerance and democratic precepts. What is the difference between Palin and a Muslim fundamentalist? Lipstick. [READ MORE BELOW]

A criminal gang is using software tools normally reserved for computer network administrators to infect thousands of PCs in corporate and government networks with programs that steal passwords and other information, a security researcher has found. The new form of attack indicates that little progress has been made in defusing the threat of botnets, networks of infected computers that criminals use to send spam, steal passwords and do other forms of damage, according to computer security investigators. Several security experts say that although attacks against network administrators are not new, the systematic use of administrative software to spread malicious software...

ON the afternoon of Nov. 7, 2006, pilots and airport employees at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago saw a disc-like object hovering over the tarmac for several minutes. Because nothing was tracked on radar, the Federal Aviation Administration did not investigate. Yet radar is not a reliable detector of all aircraft. Stealth planes are designed to be invisible to radar, and many radar systems filter out signals not matching the normal characteristics of aircraft. OLYMPICS PART TWO: SCANDALS AND CONTROVERSIES Published July 20th, 2008 Idealism is an admirable quality. The reality is, despite the idealistic dreams of the founder of the modern Olympiad and the current members of the IOC, the Games have never even approached the “equality of sports which are international and democratic” nor have they ever come close to their goal of contributing “to building a peaceful and better world.” Would that it were so, but it isn’t so. R.I.P. YANKEE STADIUM Apocryphal or not, one YogiBerra-ism I’ve always liked was his line about where Yankee players went for R&R. Referring to one particular hangout, he was supposed to have said, “Nah, no one ever goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.” One place no one, Yankee players or fans, won’t be going anymore is Yankee Stadium, not because it’s too crowded but because it won’t be there. Of course, technically, there will be a Yankee Stadium next year, just across the street from the old ballpark, but it won’t be THE Yankee Stadium which is scheduled to be torn...

This whole hullabaloo over whether Bush was referring to Obama as an appeaser is much ado about nothing. Of course Bush was referring to Obama in his speech in the Knesset! Most probably he was also referring to what some wag has called an 84 year old walking hemmorrhoid, Jimmy Carter. And the description fits both. Carter aside, since it's unkind to abuse the senile, let's look at the context. A simple syllogism: GWB says negotiating with terrorists is appeasement. Barack Hussein Obama says he would negotiate with a terrorist state, Iran. Therefore, Obama is an appeaser. No? Obama is...

Originally called Decoration Day, the holiday goes back to 1868 and is intended to remind us all of those who gave their all in service to this great nation. TORTURE OR REASONABLE FORCE? Okay, torture sucks. So, too, does the idea of people being detained without right to counsel, without the freedom to protest their status, etc. Now let’s move on to a hypothetical. Picture yourself in a situation in which you have excellent reason to believe that your family has been targeted by some fanatical, religious nutcase and the nutcase’s buddies. You have irrefutable information that their plan is to execute you, your wife, kids, grandkids, friends, neighbors, everyone you know, and they’ve already shown their expertise at such executions by killing thousands of others. D-DAY, FDR, June 6 1944 FDR, PRAYER, GOD, D-DAY, TODAY No matter what we may think of FDR—and what I think is ambivalent at best—the man had a soul and seemed to love his country. Same goes for JFK, along with a comparable ambivalence. However, this speech by FDR, delivered while the invasion of Normandy was in progress, stands in stark contrast with the thinking of too many of our leaders today. That invasion didn’t take a day, of course. Dubbed “Operation Overlord,” it consisted of a great armada of some 7000 ships and landing craft, almost 200,000 allied naval...

I rarely devote this space to anything but political matters but hereby make an exception for a movie review, of sorts. American Beauty is classified as a comedy by Moviefone, which is ironically comedic in and of itself. Even describing it as a black comedy—a term which will definitely be declared non-PC and banned if Obama becomes our president—doesn’t satisfactorily describe this flick. Films such as Fight Club, Natural Born Killers, the Kill Bill series all plumb the depths of Hollywood’s collective and twisted violent psyche. American Beauty exposes the depths of Tinsel Town’s despair. This now-8 year old film...

Anyone who isn’t aware that there are major problems in our public school systems must be a recent graduate of a public school system. There are exceptions to any rule but, in general, what follows is substantially applicable to American schools. In a word, they are failing. New York City School Chancellor, Joel Klein, has said, "It is the greatest domestic issue we as Americans face.” I wouldn’t presume to have all the answers to remedy the chaos in many classrooms, declining test scores amidst inflated grades, violence and lack of motivation, overcrowding due to illegal immigration, all of which...

CNN rarely features much of interest but did run a piece recently on biofuels which included some attention to a nation which, unlike the United States, learned something from the oil crisis of the 1970s. That nation resolved not to continue its dependence on Arab whims and wars and chose to become energy self-sufficient. Instead of virtually shutting down domestic oil exploration and ceasing to build oil refineries and nuclear generating plants, and bemoaning the cost of fuel—as we did, and are doing—that nation began developing its own resources. Those resources included limited domestic oil fields and an unlimited supply...

    > TEEN “TECHNO-VIRGINS” (PART ONE) Published in July 13th, 2008 Okay, I’m a tad too prudish when it comes to this topic so I’ll let the reader get the specifics from this Salon.com article. It directly relates to my previously-published posts on those Gloucester High Girls Gone Wild and to the promiscuous inclinations of today’s kids: http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/2008/05/21/teens_oral_sex/. It’s tough to label them kids anymore since that designation brings to mind children playing with Barbies and watching Sesame Street. Then again, twelve-year olds haven’t engaged in those innocent activities for quite a while, if ever. And I’m certainly not referring to...

CHARLES SCHUMER: CHUCKIE OR CHARLEY? Senator Charles Ellis (Chuck) Schumer (D-NY) has been aptly called “the Gloria Allred of Politics” because of his penchant for publicity and his insatiable, daily need to shoot his mouth off about something, virtually anything, if it will get his face plastered all over the media. Now he’s being ripped by the federal bank regulators for, in effect, yelling, “Fire!” in a movie theater and causing a run on the Indy-Mac Bank: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/laland/2008/07/feds-cite-schum.html. Of course, he denies the charge, as expected, and he blames the regulators. Schumer should be forgiven even if he is guilty...

TEEN “TECHNO-VIRGINS” (PART TWO) For some reason, Part One of this very mini-series resulted in quite a rise in interest. Some clarification is in order. Salon.com had published a piece by Lynn Harris, entitled, “The Rainbow Party Is Over,” http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/2008/05/21/teens_oral_sex/, which I referenced in Part One on July 13th, 2008. I had not given the details or even an explanation of Harris’ title, and, out of delicacy, nor does she except to provide a link which obfuscates the subject even more, except to say, “rainbow parties are group oral sex parties in which each girl wears a different shade of...

Does this mean that Obama’s official campaign spams? In addition to its other faults, Barack Obama’s official campaign sends what is arguably spam E-mail. We had been a member of my.barackobama.com, but our account was disabled for posting referenced quotations from Obama’s “Dreams From My Father” that demonstrated Obama’s forays into Black Nationalism, referenced excerpts from Michelle Obama’s thesis, and similar material. Obama’s campaign certainly had every right in the world to exercise editorial control over my.barackobama.com (even though the disclaimer at the bottom of each page says it is not responsible for the content) by deciding that our material was...
  • 'Obama found dead in shock accident' email being sent around

My spam filter grabs a non-spam email now and then and I've been monitoring what it does so I can adjust the settings and make sure it stops doing that. One of the spam I got last night had the title 'Obama found dead in shock accident'. I'm sure if it said 'Bush' or "McCain' instead of Obama conservatives would be up in arms about it, and so I hope also see this in the same light. I'm in Canada so I'm sure if this breaks a law or not up here. Have any of you in the USA received...

For Tracy Mooney, a married mother of three in Naperville, Ill., the decision to abandon cyber-sense and invite e-mail spam into her life for a month by participating in a McAfee experiment was a bit of a lark. The idea of the Spammed Persistently All Month (S.P.A.M.) experiment — which fittingly started on April Fool's Day — was to have 50 volunteers from around the world answer every spam message and pop-up ad on their PC. What would be the experience in 10 countries when everyday people, armed with a PC and e-mail account McAfee provided for the Global S.P.A.M....

There is a chasm between the GOP Party and the American people that has been created by a break-down of communication as to where the Party stands on issues relative to the good of America and the American people.

A bunch of anti-Obama blogs were apparently shut down on Google’s Blogspot as suspected spam. They say that Obama fans reported them as spam to get rid of them. I have no idea what the truth is. The fear online has been that false information could be spread. It’s another fear that speech can be silenced. (I suppose I should make clear that I don’t think any official Obama campaign effort is remotely behind this if it’s true. The point, instead, is that rogues can cause trouble. This would seem to be a variation on Swiftboating but rather than try...

Why NTU Supports the FairTax: The Fair Tax Act would promote freedom, fairness, and economic opportunity by repealing the income tax and other taxes, abolishing the Internal Revenue Service, and enacting a national sales tax to be administered primarily by the States. Legislative Status: The FairTax has been reintroduced for the 110th Congress. It is H.R. 25 in the House and S. 1025 in the Senate. NTU has endorsed the FairTax since 1998 and continues to work for its adoption Benefits of the FairTax: The FairTax plan brings fairness, transparency, and efficiency to our unfair, complex, and confusing Tax Code....

When actual economic indicators – unemployment, jobs creation and gross domestic product, for example – aren’t meshing with the media theme of an economy in turmoil, leave it to journalists to create unconventional indicators. That’s just what NBC “Nightly News” anchor Brian Williams did May 29 when he introduced the Spam indicator. Spam sales were 10.6 percent higher in the second quarter of 2008 than the same period in 2007, according to an Associated Press article dated May 28. Its manufacturer, Hormel Foods (NYSE: HRL), has seen profits increase 14 percent. That’s a sign of “our times,” according to Williams....

Double checking my spam box before deleting it today I found out I've been dead since precisely December 30th, 2003...and my wife too. And the daughter we never knew we had. Apparently I was never knew I was well off either, since I left "...an estate of 10.2 million Us Dollars". This may explain why I've been feeling so poorly lately.
  • What is relationship between Google Apps Standard and Google Message Filtering

    05/26/2008 11:42:01 AM PDT · by rudy45 · 2 replies · 3+ views
Right now, I use the individual version of Spamarrest. However, people have been telling me to consider an alternative, in particular Google Apps Standard, because it's free. I went to their site, and see that it does offer spam filtering. However, Google also offers message filtering, and the minimum cost is $3/user. Here's my question: if a company uses Google Apps Standard, can they integrate message filtering with their own domain name, or must everyone switch to a @gmail.com address? If the former is true, why would anyone pay for Google Message filtering if they can get Apps Standard for...
