A thoughtful examination of African American women - and African American men - and their feelings about follicles, Good Hair has the comedian and acerbic social commentator trekking from Atlanta to New York to India, asking the tough questions of singers, actresses, high schoolers, and kids, moms, dads, and businessfolk. And business it is: Black Americans spend $9 billion annually treating and straightening - or "relaxing" - their hair, and account for 80 percent of the country's hair-product sales, according to the film.

That can’t be true. There’s some fuzzy math there.
Everyone knows that blondes in Texas account for 90% of the country’s hair product sales.

I got my best hair cut of my life from a young black woman in Saginaw, Michigan. She’s not at the same location any more.
Many..many ..many years ago....I saw Chris Rock...on..maybe.. the Good Morning America show....anyway... he was burning both dems and reps.....at that point in his life he seemed to be an “equal” basher....had me laughing so hard I was crying...
is he still the same or has he taken sides ?

I wonder why they straighten, bleach, etc. if they’re so proud of their heritage.
I have black relatives. Their hair is a CONSTANT source of worry. Personally, if it’s really curly and ‘nappy’ I see nothing wrong with keeping it short and natural. But they want ‘good’ hair so they spend hours getting processes and lots of $.
IRONICALLY- the child that connects our families( our angel,and the love of our lives) has beautiful, thick, wavy hair BUT her mother and sister persist in doing it up in the same ‘beady’ball’ braids. It took 8 hours once to cornrow this childs hair.
Now I ask you- what is the point of having ‘good’ hair if you won’t treat it differently and ditch the ‘black’ hair styles you’re confined to if it’s nappy?

Every show I’ve seen Chris do, he’s had an American flag flying above him, while making it clear he thinks the USA is the best nation on earth.
His next step is usually to skewer fellow blacks ala Bill Cosby. His lecture about the difference between being rich and having wealth is a classic-it’s directed to the black community.
After that, it’s the white man’s turn. Generally the longest part of the act, but to be expected.

Corn rows don’t hurt the hair.
What to watch out for is over-processing a child’s hair — it can cause a receding hairline.

I’m actually interested to see this film.
The hardest laugh I’ve ever had when watching SNL came from Rock’s Def Jam Surgery bit, one of the greatest parodies to have ever been done.
