No, that would be Diskeeper. The real version, not the puny "lite" version that comes bundled with Windows.
Nod32 is better. Unfortunately, it’s not free.
Msconfig. Drop a few key items from the startup (after logon) sequence and the time from logon to a working desktop will dramatically decrease.
Its the best freeware to come out since Malwarebytes.

Even with how good Win7 is, those idiots at MS still can’t make a better file manager than xplorer2 lite.

Mark Russinovich’s Autoruns.exe from http://live.sysinternals.com/ is much better.
I have a couple machines that are still dual boot, WIN/ME and Windows 2000.
On the machines with ME, I have Norton utilities installed.
My question: why does it take over an hour for the latest versions of defrag to run, but Norton utilities can come along and do the same dmn disk in like 15 minutes?
Even the defrag that comes with ME is far and beyond faster than the POS Win 2k/XP version. What junk!

Okay, for real. Some borderline requisite software to use Windows: ESET Smart Security (best antivirus/antimalware/firewall software package on the market, IMO); Diskeeper (best defragmenter available, shame that Windows still fragments the disk in the first place); Firefox plus Adblock plus Noscript for better browsing; and of course, up to date hardware drivers. No, the drivers Windows Update tries to shove down your throat do not count as up to date.
Considering that we already have multi-user licenses for Diskeeper and Nod32, I’ll pass.
And I know how to keep my registry clean from the get go: no installing of questionable software ;)
