the admiral was Sir Reginald Bacon. interesting bckground. although he is quoted here, he actually retired in 1909. he was the commander of the first "battleship" the Dreadnought, which is credited with starting the arms race in war ships. a great book on that is

one doesnt sense the Admiral ever took his own advice about turning and spreading them when a bomb is inbound.
