WESTON , Fla., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- A man and woman working in tandem stole a $3,500 commemorative bottle of whiskey from a liquor store in Weston, Fla., police said.
The limited edition Johnnie Walker Blue Label bottle was one of just six bottles distributed in Florida to mark the 200th anniversary of the Scottish whiskey maker, Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said.
The bottle taken from a display case at Master Wine Liquor had been gone for three days before store employees realized it had been stolen, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported Saturday.
Surveillance video from Oct. 30 showed a man putting the rare bottle in his pants and replacing it with a different bottle while a woman distracted store employees, police said.
The special limited edition anniversary pack celebrates John and Alexander Walker's pioneering spirit and groundbreaking style on the 200th anniversary of John Walker's birthday, on 25th July 1805.
The whisky in this special edition is a cask strength blend of Blue Label. With this expression, the full power of the flavours can be experienced - each true to the Walker tradition. This exclusive Blue Label is contained in an exceptional Anniversary decanter that has been especially created for Johnnie Walker by Baccarat.
What are they going to do with it? They can’t drink it because it’d be gone and they can’t sell it because it’s well known ... all they can do is look at it and say “Gee - I wonder what it tastes like?”
A $2500 bottle of whiskey costs the same as a $5 bottle for the man who shoves it down his pants.
They drank it.
Well, if they’re serious crooks, I’m sure they could fence it. But, hey, this is Florida, and our criminals have probably already drunk it...and they didn’t like it.
They probably drank it with Coca-Cola.
Somebody, perhaps they, wanted it for their private collection. It's no different than valuable painting and antiquities that are stolen.
They ‘could’ drink it. Maybe they just wanted the thrill and then a drink? Or sell it someone with a private stock for a little less.
Why wasn’t this thing in a locked case?
It’s not the crime that I’m upset about, it’s what happened to the poor bottle after it was opened. Whoever stole it probably drank it mixed with coke and a squeeze of lemon.
Disgusting! Is this what America is coming to?
A few years ago i saw a bottle of this stuff behind the bar at a local irish place.
I asked for a shot and then the bartender told me the price.
We both laughed.
Hope they at least used Coke Classic.
IBTIJ
(in before the Irish jokes)
What a waste...
Well, the other night I got invited to a party,
But I stayed home instead.
Just me and my pal Johnny Walker,
And his brothers Black and Red.
And we drank alone, yeah, with nobody else.
We drank alone, yeah, with nobody else.
Yeah, you know when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself.
LOL! No doubt. Most FReepers don't know what a Florida criminal is really like.
>>>They probably drank it with Coca-Cola.
I didn’t realize that was a no-no. Grape Nehi maybe instead?
It’s only a problem when your whiskey is really good. The only thing the stuff in this bottle should touch is a glass.
But I’m sure it would make a nice whiskey & Coke.
Grape Nehi...you can’t improve on that, even with a glass.
Does bring to mind much worse mixers, though...like Mountain Dew or RedBull. In this case, those would be aggravating circumstances...
