It may just not have aired. One thing we know is that his image is very well controlled so if there is something that is supposed to happen per protocol, I’m sure his teleprompter would have told him to do so.
He should have stayed in Kenya, for that matter. Or Indonesia, either would be fine.
I suspect it is optional but his handlers didn’t want to give us a pic of him saluting because it may upset his base.
