It is a hateful chore because of how many times you have to handle the groceries that you buy. You take it off the shelf and put it in your basket. You take it out of the basket and put in on the check out counter. You put the darn groceries back in you grocery sacks and back into the cart. You put the grocery sacks into your car. You take the grocery sacks out of your car into your house. Then you have to take the crap out of the bags and put in storage.
Well, gee, at least you don’t have to plow the land, put the seeds in and so forth. I say we are all spoiled to the gills. Compared to the Middle Ages.
We live along the Yukon and our road is closed over half the year. Nearest sams & costco is 600 miles away. We eat alot of salmon, moose, and caribou. Grow huge garden, usually have 1000 lb taters in basement, ect.
We still haul in about 6 gran worth of food supplies every fall before road drifts shut. Beats paying 3X the price flying it in on bush planes. Oh how I wish I could bag my own groceries, ha.
Don’t forget taking it out of storage and hauling into your kitchen. Then unloading the morsels from its boxes and cans into your skillet, then unloading your skillet onto your plate, then unloading your plate into your mouth. THen hauling the plate into the kitchen for cleaning, then restocking the cupboards with clean dishes.
It’s way more efficient to be a coyote. Get hungry? stand up and chase a rabbit. Then eat it. then lay down.
Cows really got it made.
Yes, I hate grocery shopping for that very same reason. My husband adores the warehouse stores, (FoodMaxx, Costco, Winco).
I prefer to buy the staples at grocery outlet. You get name brands very reasonable, you can buy by the case if you want, they even have milk, eggs, frozen meats, fresh veggies and cold cuts. All very, very reasonable, less then the warehouse store prices. And you get SERVICE. They pack your bags, offer to carry out for you, (I prefer to carry out myself). The downside is because they are an outlet, there is no guarantee that what you find today will be there next week. So when I find something I really like, I buy a ton of it.
For fresh veggies, dairy goods, and meats that are not at the grocery outlet, I get at Vons using my Vons card, or at the nearby local market. What I spend is saved on gas. Makes no sense to drive 40 miles round trip if I only want hamburger buns, sour cream and smoked ham hocks. There is a meat market around the corner from the grocery outlet that I go to for fresh meat. They have some killer homemade chorizo, tri-tips at least 1$ a pound less then the supermarkets.
i don't like shopping for groceries because i hate deciding what to get... fortunately for me, i handle the groceries once... my boys take them out of the cart and put them on the counter... put them in the car, unload them at home... sometimes i help them put them away... if hubbies at home, he helps unload... if i could afford it, i would order it all online and have it delivered...
