Bizarre end to family’s Thanksgiving holiday (Police assist burglars)
San Mateo Daily Journal (California) ^ | December 1, 2009 | Bill Silverfarb

Thanksgiving night ended bizarrely for a Redwood City family after a man who thought he was protecting his children against would-be burglars is now facing a chance of misdemeanor charges himself for brandishing a weapon.

Edmond and Melissa Zencirci, their three children and Edmond’s mother, were settling down for bed after a long Thanksgiving day, when the family heard a loud bang in the alley on the side of their house.

The father of three, dressed only in his underwear, immediately reached for his gun out of the bedroom nightstand and a clip that was stored separately to protect his family against someone who he thought was trying to break into the family’s garage.

The bang shook Melissa out of sleep.

Edmond saw a man running across the street toward a sport utility vehicle and decided to chase after him to get the license plate number so he could report the incident to police.

The incident occurred before 11 p.m. on Brewster Avenue.

Edmond Zencirci ran out of his house dressed only in his underwear, however, and brought the gun with him as he hopped into his own SUV to chase down the vehicle that sped away. The vehicle he was chasing had at least two men in it, both wearing baseball caps.

The chase lasted several minutes before Edmond got close enough to the other vehicle to jot down the plate number.

Always be prepared, and remember the police are not the good guys and they are not your friends.

San Mateo County government is extremely leftist andworks closely with the Marxist utopia city state the Peoples Republic of San Francisco.

OK FReepers, what rules did Ed violate? I'll start with #1: No one should see your gun until you terminate the attacker.

Violated rule #2: Don’t live in California if you want to own guns.

owning guns in CA is perfectly legal. Depends on what county you are in whether “brandishing” can get you in trouble or not. If you are in your house you can brandish all you want, off your property you had better be in real danger before showing a weapon. BTW, I own many firearms here in the Northern part of the state.

“Always be prepared, and remember the police are not (ALWAYS) the good guys and they are not (ALWAYS) your friends.”

Slight modification...cops are just like anybody, good and bad. Some people got sh*t on their mustache, think the whole world stinks...don’t make it true for anyone but them...

Yep, although funny, definitely an error in judgment.

Ole Ed should have been dressed, and assured that family was prepared to defend home before beginning pursuit. I they get away, nuts, but family and home safe.

Spend a little time picking on that ‘stache instead of rust...it might clear your head...

Thanks for the Scotch & Soda nose flush Sidenet. I’ve never been a ‘clothes optional’ type...if only out of consideration for my fellow human beings.

It doesn't matter what remote CA county you're in where you think you're safe from the gun grabbers, the fact is that over here to the East across the NV border, we pity you Californians on the RKBA issue, Castle Doctrine, right to defense, 'Shall Issue' policies, identity protection, immunity from prosecution, and protection from civil suits resulting from lawful defense.

Pity, I said.

I have a CCW, some counties it is easy to get, some it is impossible. What makes you think I am not aware of the situation in CA?Save your pity for some idiot who is not aware of what is happening, also learn a little about CA and the various counties before you start running your mouth. Yep, as a whole CA is not gun friendly but taken as a county by county basis more counties are RKBA friendly than aren't.

I am not some snot nosed kid that was born yesterday, but you sound like you might be, also you are extremely frickin' rude.

I can. I am closely familiar with the city and county.

Both are liberal fiascoes.

Both the city and county government are filled with PC statist politicians and bureaucrats.

Redwood City police decided to have a roadside drunk checkpoint this last October, and made the serious mistake of locating it in the city's Latino barrio neighborhood, where the drunk illegal aliens are always crashing their cars.

It took less than five minutes for the local Latina councilperson to find out, and less than a minute after her phone call to the chief to shut it down.

The police were bluntly told to set up any further roadside checks in "other neighborhoods", meaning the white middle class area. Questions about the councilwoman's motivation were announced as "racist bigotry" by the City, and the police apologized profusely.

Our form of government here is a kakistocracy.
