Because the expectation is that the wealthy are far above being mortal, so some revel in the fact that we are all mere mortals, with mortal tendencies and faults.
There are those who enjoy watching the 'high and mighty' fall to ruin or their comeuppance.
This story won't go away simply because of WHO is involved. Yet, no one has looked into the life of the sport.
I was fortunate enough to sit and talk with Doug Sanders, and his explanation was very succinct. You give up your home life for the game, everything important suffers, and on the road temptation is great. Everyone wants to buy you a drink, and sooner or later that takes a toll on your game.
