You know... the twin plot devices of Big Evil Corporation and Pure and Noble Savages is really getting kinda old. They've just been beaten to death too darn many times.

Somebody ought to try something *really* avant-garde and portray some corporation as the hero. That comes into town and cleans out the socialist weasels that’ve been tyrannizing the indigenous people... raising them out of the squalor and fetid disease-ridden lives they've suffered with for so long...

Something like that...

Those people are nuts. And what is “hetro,” anyway?

A local movie critic referred to it as “Dances with Wolves in Space”.

Is that Stop Avatar site some satire or the person who created it serious? These days it could go either way.

Dang, I was looking forward to this one! Why can’t these people leave their left wing garbage out of movies and just create an enjoyable fantasy flick? I like movies such as Lord of the Rings, where I can lose myself in a fantasy world and not think about the “real” world for a couple hours. If I wanted to spend 2 hours being fed left wing propaganda I would save my $20 dollars and just turn on MSNBC.

Practically all movies have a left-wing slant.

But politics aside, the premise is interesting. We always make movies about aliens invading Earth. But what if one day we are capable of intersteller travel and find a planet that has a resource that we want/need. You really think human beings wont try to exploit it? Seriously?

One day in the future, we might be the aliens doing the invading. Im not saying this from a political point of view. I’ve just read enough history to understand the tendancies of our species. And our intentions are NOT always good. That’s just reality.

When two civilizations come into contact that are significantly different levels of advancement, the more technically advanced (primarily through Mil Tech) one almost always overwhelms the other (usually through violent conflict.)

There is nothing noble about being on the losing side of that - only some level of tyranny.

The real lesson we should learn is not to be more PC or “get in touch with our inner savage,” rather it is that if you want to survive in this World (or Universe), you better have more, better and bigger weapons than the other guys.

If you don't - you lose, they win.

President Reagan knew that. So did everyone of our ancestors, who successfully beat the hell out of the losers history, so we could exist to whine about what bad men they were.

Well that’s a bummer. Not surprising—but the animation looked so cool I was hoping I could stomach the storyline.

I guessed at the “teched up white people vs. cool nature-based indigenous people” slant from the trailers, but I suppose I hoped the story was more complex, in terms of showing that both sides had very good reasons for the fight, compelling them to take the positions they did. Too bad it’s so simplistic, naive, and left—not going to get any $$ from this consumer.

Hear, hear. Not only does it disagree vehemently with my politics, it is getting boh-ring at this point. Just because you flash 'em with special effects and makeup does not change this old wheezing tired plot.

I can almost agree with that, but you left out one very important point: "..you better have more, better and bigger weapons than the other guys and have the will to use them."

It’s a shame there’s no screen-writing heir to Robert Heinlein. He coulda taken this movie’s premise, stood it on its head, and still make a block-buster that everyone could get behind.

Think: “Pandora is a Harsh Mistress.”

If Sarah Palin sees Avatar and then sits down and actually thinks about what it's saying (which is always a dicey proposition, I admit), she'll hate this movie. Because Avatar hates her and her kind.

"Her kind" is nevertheless expected to subsidize this drivel by paying to see it.

I'll pay to see another James Cameron movie when hell freezes over.

There was a time when that could be assumed. (sigh)

I guess you are forgetting what Hollyweird did to "Starship Troopers?

No. But hope springs eternal! And what Verhooven did to 'Troopers is HIS crime. Heinlein couldn't object other than to spin in his grave!
