SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Intel Corp. has made peace with arch-rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc., but the Federal Trade Commission's suit against the chip behemoth points to the rise of its new nemesis on the legal front -- Nvidia Corp.
The FTC complaint focuses on Intel's alleged anticompetive behavior against AMD in the market for central processing units, or CPUs, that run personal computers. But it also zeroed in on the market for graphics processing units, or GPUs as graphics processors are known, an arena where Nvidia and Intel are locked in a bitter dispute.
Adobe paces gains in the technology sector after the company reports revenue and a forecast that exceeds expectations. Intel shares slip after the chip maker is hit with a new lawsuit. MarketWatch's Dan Gallagher reports.
"AMD has been neutralized, but Nvidia is loaded for bear," analyst Roger Kay of Endpoint Technologies Associates said, referring to the graphics chip maker's increasing aggressive posture against the tech behemoth.
In fact, Intel general counsel Doug Melamed said in a call, "What brought us to litigation was the 11th hour addition of new issues related to graphics and benchmarks -- some of which were first mentioned to Intel as recently as December 8 and none of which was fully investigated."

What monopoly, is this the same monopoly that U.S. Postal Service enjoys? Or is Intel the same as UPS, FedEx, DHL, Amex, Master card, Visa, Discover Card, Ford, Toyota, GM….
NO; there is no monopoly…although, what there is, is scared and like a bunch of Euro-bitches and now complaining they do not have the ability to compete in an open market place.
This is a hit piece and propaganda to pave the way for public influence; simple as that!

To be reasonable, yes there are multiple views on this. Although AMD has proudly gone head-to-head with Intel over the years, now that Intel has taken another leap and have an equal/same product range and depth AMD wants to fain victimhood. Further, Nvidia dropped the ball distributing defective chips awhile back, tried to cover their tracks and were caught. Intel has stayed out of the aftermarket in low, mid, high video cards as other channel and consumer products; now that Intel has a chips that overshadow AMD products, and video integrated directly into Intel Motherboards, everyone is now concerned. Please remember, this type of story and press release is how media campaigns get rolling, especially with a predominately negligent verging complicit media.

I meant to send a link about this — Cringely made a case last week that Intel settled with AMD in order to clear the way for its takeover of NVidia.

Seems like a great idea for a topic, but maybe the source can’t be used.
