OTTAWA Ottawa Senators centre Mike Fisher confirmed Monday morning that he is engaged to country music star Carrie Underwood.
He spoke about the impending nuptials at the morning skate, ahead of his team's game against the Boston Bruins.
"It's true," Fisher said. "We're both obviously excited and very happy and so, exciting times for sure."
A wedding date hasn't been set.
Fisher said he popped the question Sunday, but he wouldn't go into any more details. He has been reluctant to speak about the relationship in the past.
But according to a family friend, Fisher, 29, popped the question at his home Sunday afternoon while surrounded by his family and friends, before texting the good news to many of his close friends later in the day.
"He was pretty excited," said the source, who did not want to be identified. "She's a great gal and I think they're made for each other."
The source said the text message was received around 9 p.m. Sunday night. When asked why Fisher might have informed friends via text message, the source merely said, "he's a simple guy."
It's not known where the ring came from but it was given to Underwood, 26, on Sunday. It's believed that none of her family were present at the time.
The couple have been dating for about a year, although they kept the relationship quiet until recently.
no surprise here..
A friend on hearing this, said “Will this marriage be measured in minutes, or seconds, and who will get the kids?”
How cynical.
Carrie is obviously into hard-bodied jocks. I’ll put the over-under at two years and take the under. Why would she want to stop with just two?
That’s not cynical.
That’s a reality-based observation, based upon observation of past instances.
A cynic is someone who thinks that only base desires (eg, for money, fame, wealth) motivates people’s actions. Here, both parties have plenty of wealth and fame, so that’s not a motivation. Saying that some bumpkin of a girl marrying a movie star just for the money - that’s cynical.
Noting that celebs seem to have a very elastic definition of “till death do us part” isn’t cynical - it is reality.
Carrie seems to have a good head on her shoulders and comes from a good family. I hope this works for them.
Good for them! May they have a long and happy marriage.
Instead of the dog house, Fisher’s transgressions will get him put in the penalty box...
Speaking of celeb-hockey matches, Kristi Yamaguchi and Bret Hedican (Carolina Hurricanes) have been going strong for about 9 years now. Of course, there was the common interest in skating there, but hockey players seem to be more regular guys as far as sports stars go.
Aren’t Alexei Yashin and Carole Alt still together (if that isn’t too touchy a subject for a Senator fan)?
Other hockey-celeb relationships:
Valeri Bure - Candace(?) Cameron
Charlie Simmer - Terri Welles (for all you old-time hockey fans)
Gretzky - Janet Jones
I’m sure there are plenty of more.
The one difference is that he’s a hockey player. They seem to be more down to earth than other pro athletes.
LOL, true — and if her husband drops some weight and gets traded to Buffalo, that means her companion would be a light Sabre...
You forgot puck bunny elisha culberth
At least she’s into men not Hollywood metros
