Word For The Day, Wednesday, December 30, 2009 - canaille
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Word of the Day ^

Posted on 12/30/2009 6:06:00 AM PST by VRWCmember

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

canaille • \kuh-NYE\ • noun

1. rabble, riffraff *
2. proletarian

* Indicates the sense illustrated in the example sentence.

Example sentence:

"I am not going to write for [the New York Weekly] -- like all other papers that pay one splendidly, it circulates among stupid people & the canaille." (Mark Twain, letter, June 1, 1867)

Did you know?
For a creature said to be man’s best friend, the dog doesn’t get a whole lot of respect in the English language. Something that has "gone to the dogs," for example, has gone to ruin, and the Britishism "dog’s breakfast" means a confused mess of something. The word "canaille," which debuted in English in the 17th century, shows that we have no qualms about associating dogs with the lower levels of human society; it derives via French from Italian "canaglia," and ultimately from "canis," the Latin word for "dog." "Canis," of course, is also the source of "canine," meaning "of or relating to dogs or to the family to which they belong."

Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.

Nappy Janet was merely engaging in typical dem-speak..."The system worked perfectly --- before it turned into a pile of crap."

Just an echo of John F. Kerry. :-|

I have long suspected that all of the Martian “lines” and “waterworks” are valid images in the observers’ mind: but they are an actually (and sadly for science fiction) just artifacts of the dust storms, storm fronts, exposed mountain ranges, ice cap changes, and cloud changes on Mars.

Blurred by dist and “wanting to see artificial waterways” the observer’s mind creates straight lines and intersections from storm fronts and rubble-filled canaillines

Okay this is not a sentence, but it does fit;

Obozo administration= canaille.

Unfortunately, your description fits the times just fine. (The people you are describing, however, are fit to be fitted in nothing more impressive than a toilet.....)
