The whales that are being hunted in Antartica ARE in danger of being extinct.

I can give a rat's ass about hunting deer, rabbit, phesant, ducks, geese, what have you. But when you hunt an endangered species you are a sick individual.

AND PLEASE SHOW ME PROOF THEY ARE NOT ENDANGERED!

D,

I have seen estimates of minke whale populations of +800,000 -
more than enough to safely reproduce long-term and allow
harvesting of reasonable numbers.

If people want to harvest and eat/use them completely, I’ve
got no problems with it, any more than reasonable harvest of
any other creature.

By any chance, are you going through menopause?

Please show us proof that Antarctic Minke whales ARE endangered.

Every thing I’ve read about them puts them in the lower risk/ least concern category. There are hundreds of thousands of them swimming around. A few hundred won’t be missed.

You're the one saying they're endangered. The burden of proof is upon you. Go get educated on the subject and then report back here on what you've learned...and while you're at it, take a pill.

Well there Dengar01, you asked for it, you get it......

drum roll.......

Ta Da!

http://www.icrwhale.org/QandAjapanresearch.htm

Chew on that for a while. A whale population of around 760,000 and they take 440. Big deal. Get over it.

"AND PLEASE SHOW ME PROOF THEY ARE NOT ENDANGERED!"

Okay - here goes.........

According to the International Whaling Commission, it is very hard to get reliable numbers for creatures that spend the bulk of their lives underwater in deep oceans, but their estimates are roughly.....

Blue Whales.......1,150 - 4,500

Humpback Whales.... 75,000 or so

Minke Whales.......in excess of 1,000,000

Now I don't care who you are, THAT ain't endangered.

Minke whales are common, they are not in any danger of extinction, where did you learn this nonsense?

OK. First, you don't even know what species of whale these are, nor what the established hunting limits are for them, nor who is , and who is not following the treaty for the allowed hunting of them. Nor do you know their population size, and whether they are at the top or bottom of their population limit.

Prove me wrong.

It’s a weak argument when you ask someone to prove a negative. However.

Minske whales are considered “Least Concern” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN).

Here’s their scale according to risk of extinction:

Extinct
Extinct in the wild
Critically endangered
Endangered
Vulnerable
Threatened
Conservation dependent
Near Threatened
Least Concern

Just for reference, the American Bison is listed as Near Threatened. So according to the IUCN, Minske whales are not endangered. Now prove to me they are endangered.

You display hubris in stating the Japanese don’t need the whales. Japanese don’t eat much beef but they don’t tell us to stop slaughtering cattle.

I love wild life and consider myself an environmentalist in the sense I do my best not to pollute or waste. But I’m also an avid hunter and will use natures resources in responsible manner.
