HELP! My MetroPCS Phone Died! Can Contact Info Be Transferred From Dead Phone?

HELP! My MetroPCS phone just died. The weird thing is that tonight I was actually going to contact the Nokia company to tell them about my miracle phone that next month would have been 4 years old and AMAZINGLY used the same battery. Sooooo... When I got home, the phone finally died. Its not the battery. I'm sure it is the phone.

I'll get another MetroPCS phone tomorrow but what really worries me is my contact info in the phone. Can it be transferred from a dead MetroPCS phone to another MetroPCS phone?

I was thinking Nokia could have placed my phone into a cell phone museum for some sort of endurance record. Just strange the coincidence here.

As long as you saved your contacts on your memory card you should be okay. If you don’t know if you have one just have one of the metropcs guys take a look at it.

I guess that might depend on the phone. Not that I know anything, even though MetroPCS was born out here.

I assume you went with MetroPCS for the price? and me thinking you were rich and all. =o)

The contacts were on my phone’s memory so even if the phone is permanently dead, it can be transferred to the new MetroPCS phone?

Transferring your contacts to your replacement phone is fast, simple and wireless!

Step 1. Download MetroBACKUP to your supported replacement phone following the steps below:

1. Add the MetroBACKUP feature to your account by visiting a MetroPCS store or by
calling 1.888.8metro8
2. Go to “@Metro” on your MetroPCS handset
3. Go to the folder “Metro Featured Apps”
4. Locate and select MetroBACKUP
5. Follow the step-by-step instructions

Step 2. Login with your PIN. If you are unable to remember your PIN, click here to have it sent to your phone via a text message.

Step 3. The last step of the setup process will prompt you to restore their contacts and you should respond by selecting “Yes”. If you want to restore contacts from the Web, you can click the “Update Now” button or select the “Backup” option on their phone which will backup all of the contacts on their phone and also pull down any changes from the Web site.

If you change phone numbers, call 1.888.8metro8 (1.888.863.8768) for assistance transferring your contacts.

Lost your phone?

MetroBACKUP has a lost phone feature that allows you to remotely erase the contacts on your phone if it is lost or stolen. Your complete contact list will remain saved on the MetroBACKUP Web site so you can restore your
contacts at a later time.

To erase the contacts from your phone, login to your MetroBACKUP account, click the “Lost Phone” link at the top of the page and follow the instructions provided. If your service is active and your phone is powered on, within a good coverage area and the erase function isn’t manually interrupted, this will remove your contacts from your phone.

Not sure on your particular phone, but many will save the contact info on the SIM card. Older phones in particular I think only saved to SIM card.

Take the SIM card out and put it into the new phone. You may or may not have service if the old SIM card was deactivated with new phone, but you should still be able to get the contact info off it.

Either move the contact info to the new phone’s memory (if you can hopefully). On my phone that meant going into each individual contact and setting it for Phone instead of SIM on where the contact was stored.

or start writing them down (that sucks).

Then take old SIM card out of new phone and put new SIM card back in. Can either leave contacts in phone storage or move them back to SIM card storage.

Contacts should now be on new phone.

This all depends on phone models and brands if you can do this. I did this to transfer old contacts from a Motorolla RAZR to a Samsung Blackjack II and worked fine.
