I am very frustrated with having to wait and wait and wait for each and every webpage I want to look at to load. Firefox (the latest version, whatever that is) hangs and hangs and hangs, with the progress bar oh-so-slowly filling, then you get the blue message box of death "Firefox can't find the server" and similar messages. If you keep clicking on the "try again" button, you usually get to where you want to go eventually, but it's like a salmon swim upstream. I should add that I have Kaspersky Internet Security running to protect my 'puter.
This hanging seems to be worse on certain webpages, like the NY Daily News or Earthlink, and is worse at some times of the day (although in the middle of the night, it can still happen).
Does any FReeper out there have a clue as to why this annoying thing is happening? Sure do appreciate a fix, if it's possible.
Please look into OpenDNS.com. It’s free and has fast lookups.
No, not infinitely. At least not if you update things regularly!
I’m sitting around 2 weeks uptime, and I’ve had FF open at all times since the machine was last rebooted. There’s a definite minimum, but also a pretty definite maximum it never goes above under normal usage, before it releases some resources back.
I monitor fulltime as I’ve got a rather suspect video card fan (but the potential replacement is no prize either, so I’m staying with this one til it’s *dead*) and the app monitors temps, fan rpm, and resources. This has all stayed very steady over the past year.
All else aside, given how often it goes back down to starting levels, you should be able to keep things going for an impressively long period by just restarting FF occasionally when it asks after an update.
We’re not talking a top of the line machine...it was $300 4 years ago, running 2k Pro, 1.25 GB ram.
Oh, the one thing that can bring FF screeching to a halt? ABP filters! Be very sure if you use this and have multiple subscriptions, you keep an eye on what overlaps and what may cause slowdowns. Every so often if the update server isn’t responding quickly when it wants to update, we have a veeeerrrrrrrry unhappy machine for a minute or two.
