Tebow to appear in pro-life Super Bowl commercial

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Tim Tebow is taking his star power to sport's biggest stage.

The former Florida quarterback and his mother will appear in a 30-second commercial during the Super Bowl next month. The Christian group Focus on the Family says the Tebows will share a personal story centering on the theme "Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life."

The group isn't releasing details, but the commercial is likely to be an anti-abortion message chronicling Pam Tebow's 1987 pregnancy. After getting sick during a mission trip to the Philippines, she ignored a recommendation by doctors to abort her fifth child and gave birth to Tim.

The 2007 Heisman Trophy winner ended his college career with several NCAA, Southeastern Conference and school records, and two national championships. Tebow also has been very involved in his family's Christian-based ministry.

This is how a sports journalists web site has reacted to the news. This really gives you a good idea where the media is today. The scary thing is that I’d content that sports media tend to be a little bit more “conservative” than the news side.

God bless them, but the real trick here will be whether or not the ad is so ginned up with “hate” that the networks won’t be able to show.

I hope I’m wrong, but I’ll bet a dollar it never sees airtime during the Super Bowl.

I agree with you on that, generally speaking.

Football is no place for feel-good hippie crap...it's where men can be men and don't have to apologize for playing to win.

If this actually does air, I’ll be surprised. Look for a big-time fight to stop it.

Christ told us that people would hate us all because of Him, and defending the unborn is something He calls us to do, so Tebow being criticized or taunted for this is nothing unexpected. That said, Tebow will live his faith regardless of what it costs him. What about the phonies in the media or sports? My suspicion is that they are faithless and Godless to boot.

A lot of respondents might want to ask themselves the psalmist’s question in Psalm 2: “Why do the heathen rage and the peoples imagine a vain thing?”
