I think GB has been bad for a long time. About 10 yrs ago, I was traveling in Spain and bumped into a young British woman in a small town who was looking for the same museum I was trying to find. I saw some boys, about 10-12 yrs old, playing ball at the end of a street and I told her I was going to ask them if they had heard of the museum (I speak Spanish and she didn’t).
She was terrified and refused to go with me. She stood at the end of the block watching while I talked to the kids. They were very polite and one of them did know the location of the museum and pointed it out to me.
While we walked, she told me that in England, you would never dream of talking to children that age on the street, because they might “turn on you.” I was stunned.
