Untidy beds may keep us healthy House dust mite House dust mites are linked to asthma Failing to make your bed in the morning may actually help keep you healthy, scientists believe.
Research suggests that while an unmade bed may look scruffy it is also unappealing to house dust mites thought to cause asthma and other allergies.
A Kingston University study discovered the bugs cannot survive in the warm, dry conditions found in an unmade bed.
The average bed could be home to up to 1.5 million house dust mites.
The bugs, which are less than a millimetre long, feed on scales of human skin and produce allergens which are easily inhaled during sleep.

I’ve not taken off the original plastic that covers both the box spring and mattress of my set. Does that keep dust mites off the mattress?

I figure if I keep the whole house messy, I will be protected from burglars. They will look in and think my house has already been ransacked; then move on to someone else. LOL

The stuff they make couches out of now a days. Why minutes after I sit in one, I just start to slouch, and then my spine muscles get all weak and I get a severe lean. Which is uncomfortable if my feet are on the floor, so up they come. Next thing I know it’s dark and I’m woken up by the dog snoring in my face.

When I was growing up the used beds in the house were made up open hospital style to air during the day. They were neat and clean.

Professor Andrew Wardlaw, of the British Society for Allergy and Clinical Immunology...said... "It is true that mites need humid conditions to thrive and cannot survive in very dry (desert like) conditions. "However, most homes in the UK are sufficiently humid for the mites to do well and I find it hard to believe that simply not making your bed would have any impact on the overall humidity." I am mighty inclined to agree.

howd she know that? Many years ago a friend and her husband - a Methodist minister - were over for dinner. He made the comment that the wallpaper in our kitchen looked like it belonged in a French Bordello - to which everyone in the room - almost simultaneously - asked him how he would know... he was a good sport about it...

I hate to make my bed. I got spoiled by living in Europe and using a big feather comforter just laid over the mattress with one sheet on top. In the morning, many people opened the windows and put the comforters to sort of hang outside a bit (sun and fresh air) for an hour or so while otherwise tidying up.
