WEST SUMMERLAND KEY, Fla. -- Two 17-year-olds fled from a juvenile diversion program at a Florida Keys campground in a stolen fire truck.
The teens were arrested and charged with grand theft auto. The truck belonged to the chief of the Big Pine Key Fire Department.
Authorities said a Camp Sawyer counselor called the Monroe County Sheriff's Office Monday morning to report that the teens were missing from the site on West Summerland Key. Deputies then learned of the missing fire truck.
The boys, who were only wearing underwear, were caught 90 miles away.
Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said she can remember police cars being stolen, but this is the first case of a stolen fire truck.
“The boys, who were only wearing underwear, were caught 90 miles away”
Saves time when you are playing with your hose.
Caught; 2 boys in their underwear driving a fire truck. Good detective work there Lou.
How's that "juvenile diversion program" working out for you, Florida?
(tax money well-spent)
Juvenile diversion program must not have been diverting enough for them.
It’s hard to escape down there with only one road to watch!
Do you think they donned clean underwear for the occasion?
How far in the Florida Keys can you get in a stolen fire truck? Reminds me of when some black Crip guys did some crime in South East Colorado and took off out of town on a 200 mile mountain road with no exits. Not. Too. Bright.
“black Crip guys”? As opposed to what, white Crips?
Well, the funny part about the story was that the area, Oury, Silverton, Dorango is blindingly white. So these two brothers decided to be the only two black guys west of LA, and do a getaway, from a drive by hit( I think on a Mexican gay guy ).....in the daytime.
So the local various Sheriffs just blocked the highway at each end( funny how fast that radio works) and look for the one, the only, the few.
