Watching TCM this morning - One of the 31 days of Oscar promos talks about the Oscar being like the Medal of Honor.
Remember the Messiah mistakenly called the Medal of Freedom the Medal of Honor...the left really do not care about the Medal of Honor, at least not enough to know what it is.
An Oscar, huh...yeah its exactly the same.
I have a theory that major battles in history have turned on very small events...just one man standing his ground and refusing to take cover can dramatically change the outcome of a battle. If you read the Medal of Honor citations, each one of these men was indeed one of those small events in a battle, that potentially changed the outcome. Our very freedom and way of life has been preserved by Medal of Honor recipients.
No actor really had quite the same impact, IMHO.
They select a Medal of Honor winner every year?
They don’t live on the same plane of reality as the rest of us.
Delusional. I wonder how many oscars were awarded posthumously.
That Brokeback Mountain guy who was in Batman won posthumously I think.
Let's get real here, hollyweird.
There's an aspiring actor in our own family but I certainly would not cosider their winning an Oscar as a matter of raw human courage above and beyond the call of duty in defense of others' liberty and security.
Good grief.
They have no concept of "honor."
I should have qualified by saying awarded posthumously for actions which lead to their demise.
As someone who really appreciates TCM showing a lot of great old movies while other networks ignore them, this is very disappointing.
Actually Obama is the first president to aspire to the Order of Lenin. Only problem is you need to resurrect the USSR in order to award it. I can see Hollywood aspiring to the same...
.
There’s a “Best Picture” every year — even if every last one of them was cr@p.
Clark Gable enlisted in the Air Corp, received the Air Medal and was discharged as a Major at Wars end.
Jimmy Stewart Retired a General and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross twice, the Croix de Guerr and the Air Medal. He also won the Academy Award and probably cherished his medals and Oscar for they showed his prowess in both careers.
I am a TMC junkie while my wife doesn't like "old movies" espceially Black and White cinema!!!
The “Academy” honored Leni Reifensthal (NAZI propagandist) at Oscars’ ceremony following the year of her death.
Awards are politicized now.
Obama(x2), both Clintons, Gore, Carter, Jesse Jackson, and Al Franken are among the list of those who’ve won Grammies in the past 25 years.
Carter, Arafat, Gore, and Obama have won Nobel Peace Prizes.
See post # 9 and I know who Reifenstahl was.
Vic Morrow and Brandon Lee are among the handful of actors who died in course the making of a film.
Some like John Wayne may have gotten cancer from working on the set of a movie (tainted by nuclear testing).
I brought up Leni Reifenstahl because she is a particularly ugly example of what the Academy will pay tribute to.
This modern group also sat on their hands as Elia Kazan was awarded a lifetime acheivement award because he betrayed their lovely Communist Party.
You have listed the LOSERS!
And many soldiers die in the course of their tour of things like traffic accidents, etc. They don't get the cmoh. As I recall Morrow died in a botched stunt where some explosives went off at the wrong time. Not the same thing at all.
It was my impression that JW got lung cancer from smoking like a chimney.
