I have the 64 bit version of windows 7- trust me on this- wait for service pack 1 AT LEAST (more likely sp2)
and whatever you do DO NOT download and ry to use the ‘free’ Office 210 beta- unless you like an email program that crashes when you send an email.
They should have stopped with Win2K PRO and done something useful
If your computer is handling Vista OK, why upgrade until there is some indication that Micro$oft will stop supporting it? That said, IMHO having used both, Win 7 is a big step forward, at least on my Latitude E6400 laptop.
It's an easy upgrade. In fact, Windows 7 should have been named Windows Vista Service Pack 3. The only bugaboo is that Windows 7 does not contain an email program. You have to provide your own or go to the Microsoft site and download one of theirs. (It's free.) The old Windows Mail has been replaced by Windows Live Mail.
AND DON’T GET ME STARTED ON THE ‘RIBBON’ BAR IN OFFICE!!!
If a WANTED 1/3 of my screen taken up with a display of commands I never use I would have done it myself.
I upgraded, now I have a Crazy glitch. The screen will jumble up, the go black then come back after a few seconds.
It says...display driver has failed and has recovered. Called Dell “in India” and she did a few things, but it still does it. Oh well.
You will upgrade or you will be eliminated.

Vista has served my needs. I will wait until I upgrade one of my computers to get 7. It’s possible that I may keep vista for some time. Heck, I still have a XP machine as well.
Bill wants you to reward him for money wasted on VISTA by buying his next operating system.

It's the eval copy that will expire this summer. I'm debating whether or not I want to upgrade to a full retail copy. All I really use it for, is to sync my iPhone to iTunes.
I second that. I tried Vista, and I and my computers puked. I reverted to XP.
But to tell the truth, I really enjoy Win7, and I'm replacing XP with Win7 on all my Windows boxes this year (two done so far).
It's essentially Vista SP3. Microsoft gets their operating systems correct in the second or third service pack.
just got a new laptop. refurbished dell through my tech guru. it has windows xp professional to avoid vista and 7.
If I had Windows XP, I would not upgrade to Vista.
If I had Windows XP, I would not upgrade to Windows 7.
However, If I had Vista I would upgrade to Windows 7.
If by "eval" you mean it's one of the RC's released in 2009, you only have a month or so left before it starts shutting down on you. Do not delay -- once you see the warnings, get your data and apps off the computer right away before it locks up.
If you're a Windows user, I recommend you get Win7. It's worth it. OTOH, if you're a Mac, Linux, or Unix user, and already happy with one of those, you might want to think twice about Windows (of any kind).
