Washington insiders recently sweated out a real-time war game where a cyberattack crippled cell phone service, Internet and even electrical grids across the U.S. The unscripted, dynamic simulation allowed former White House officials and the Bipartisan Policy Center to study the problems that might arise during a real cyberattack emergency, according to Aviation Week's Ares Defense Blog.
The Policy Center's vice-president reports ""The general consensus of the panel today was that we are not prepared to deal with these kinds of attacks."

Well, I’m not all that geeky (okay, a teensy bit) and even I knew that much...
In a war, you tell your enemy what he needs to know when you want TO LOSE THE WAR.....

Doubt this news story will make much difference to the threat. Those that know our vulnerabilities won’t gain any additional knowledge with articles like this one. But that doesn’t mean the wargame is necessarily all that realistic. Yes, certain networks should be protected, but a lot of this reminds me of the hmmming and hawing about global warming, peak oil, etc. It’s all designed to accelerate the growth and reach of government at a time when government at all levels is becoming the biggest threat to our country’s future.
Really, why not also run a commercial broadcasting this on CNN International and Al Jazeera just to make sure EVERYONE IN THE WORLD KNOWS. Notice who wrote the story.
This is a cat & mouse game the Govt, any govt will never be able to win. Here’s why.
Everybody knows how fast technology evolves. You buy something and before you barely get it home a better product is already in shipment ready to restock the shelves.
Software evolves just as fast as newer more powerful hardware allows.
Ya’ll are probably familiar enough with your anti-virus and firewall security programs which show you your vulnerabilities. You know what happens when there’s a problem, and usually the damage is done. Sure you scramble to update and download some patch or new definitions, but again the damage is most likely done. In the case of Govt computers, definately done.
What comes first the chicken or the egg? In this case what comes first, the virus or trojan horse or the patch to close the security hole. The virus always comes first.
Bloated Govt bureaucracy will never move as fast as the programmers can and do before they’ve already exposed their weaker defenses.
“more funding and bigger government” = more taxes.
