Too bad you don’t live in Arkansas. There’s a park that’s a diamond mine, there are diamonds right on the surface of the ground. You can literally pick them up, and best of all, you get to keep whatever you find!

Crater of Diamond State Park

There are usually pretty nice rocks in old mine tailings so if you know where there are any old mines.

In the morning, call OSU, 3180 Center Street Northeast
Salem, OR 97301-4532..... (503) 588-5301

You should be able to find someone there that could point you in the right direction.

If it were me, I would head for Crater Lake, but you only want to go 25 miles.

Call these folks... maybe they can give you some ideas.
