FISHTOWN - February 20, 2010 (WPVI) -- Police are investigating the death of a woman after she was attacked by the family's pet pit-bulls.
Philadelphia police responded to a call just before 7:00 Saturday morning for reports of a woman being attacked by several pit-bulls in Fishtown.
The incident happened along the 1400 block of East Oxford Avenue.
When police arrived on scene, they saw a 38-year-old woman being attacked by one pit-bull; 5 other pit-bulls were being contained by the victim's mother.
Police shot and killed the one dog.
Moments later, another dog escaped containment and police shot and killed that dog, as well.
Medics were called out, however, the woman was pronounced dead on scene.

I’ll help you out.
Six pitbulls in one family, huh? In Philly. Is the press SURE these were pets?
Lots of people call these pets but when you ask them why they have a pit, the reasoning starts with, “Cuz they’re cool, man.”

In Philly. Is the press SURE these were pets?Isn't Philly the place that welcomed Michael Vick as one of their own?

What happened was, she came home high again, her daughter, she went to attack my wife, and her own dog attacked her Jade, and they had to shoot the dog because the dog wouldn't release her," Headline should be "Pitbull saves woman from attack".

Or a moat full of wild hogs around the place. When pit bull advocates come to visit, flip a switch to drop the drawbridge. ;-)

Christine Staab and her mother are white, Fishtown is a very predominantly white part of Philly.
And many, many white people have been at the center of these pit bull attacks. The problem is as much the breed as it is the owner (though obviously the cultural things you refer to exacerbate the issue.)

"Her stepfather, Thomas Fowler, said his wife was trying to take the keys to their home away from Staab. Fowler says Staab lives at the home when she wasn't in drug rehab or jail. Fowler says the pit bull that attacked, named Jade, was doing what comes naturally to a dog; she was protecting his wife."
Had the old lady defended herself with a .357 instead of a dog, most FReeper's would be lauding her proficiency with a firearm.
