The Dome Dog, the $5 quarter-pound, all-beef, grilled-not-steamed favorite of Minnesota Twins fans for 10 years, won't be called up to the bigs at the new Target Field.

Hormel, whose hot dogs have been a beloved dining option at the Metrodome, will no longer supply them for the team, Twins and Hormel officials said Wednesday. Of the 1.1 million sausages sold at Twins games last year, nearly 400,000 were Dome Dogs, more than any other single sausage product.

"Hormel and the Twins decided to part ways after a great ... corporate relationship" that began in 2001, team spokesman Kevin Smith said in an e-mail, describing the split as "an amicable parting of the ways."

"The hot dog's most infamous moment at the Dome came in 2001, when fans pelted former Twin Chuck Knoblauch with $1 hot dogs and assorted debris as he stood in left field for the New York Yankees. The unruliness halted the game and prompted (the late) public-address announcer Bob Casey to scold the offenders, "Now quit this!"

I was there. It was hillarious......

Happy to see that there will be quality dogs in the new stadium...
