Col. Williams tied to Bernardo (Colonel and serial killer 'partied', police say)
Toronto Sun ^ | ScottMerge

Accused killer Col. Russell Williams and notorious serial killer Paul Bernardo both attended the University of Toronto Scarborough campus.

They both studied economics at the Military Trail campus during the mid-1980s.

They graduated together in 1987, Williams, 46, with a politics and economics degree, Bernardo, 45, with a commerce and economics degree.

Their families both lived along the Scarborough bluffs.

Now police sources tell the Toronto Sun the two were college “pals” who “partied” together and that their relationship is the subject of intense scrutiny by the joint forces team probing the murders of Cpl. Marie-France Comeau and Jessica Lloyd.

Maybe they learned something from one another...

For people who don't know Williams was the commander of the 8 Wing/CFB Trenton military base in Ontario until he was charged a few weeks ago with two counts of first-degree murder and two of sexual assault.

Paul Bernardo is Canada's most notorious serial killer, who killed several school girls in the 90's with the help of his wife, Karla Homolka. They were known as the 'Ken and Barbie Killers'. Bernardo is spending the rest of his life in jail, and Homolka got out of a jail a few years ago and is living somewhere in the southern hemisphere with a daughter (hopefully someone checks regularly to make sure the girl is alive).

A bit old, but I just found it.

I believe Homolka is remarried too.

As for Williams and Bernardo....birds of a feather

The Paul Bernardo story reads like the utter failure of bureaucrats who happen to be called police.

Good post. The Ken and Barbie killers story has been on TV several times. As I recall, they taped the killings and one of the victims was her sister.

Yes, Karla drugged her 13 or 14 year old sister with animal sedatives she stole from the vets office she worked at so Paul could rape a ‘virgin.’ The girl never woke up from her sedation.

Homolka got off light not because of the police, but because of an NDP Minister of the Crown who worked from the presumption that, prīmā faciē, women who participate in heinous crimes so as abused wives and not from their own character disorder.

She was allowed to make a plea bargain that Bernardo's lawyer later called a "deal with the devil".

The police had spent days searching the Bernardo home bur failed to find video tapes hidden in a light fixture in a false ceiling. The deal with Homolka was made in ignorance of the contents of the video tapes.

Bernardo was able to continue his rampage because the police departments involved failed to keep each other informed about crime sprees going on in their own patches.

A Royal Commission rapped the police forces involved for being jealous of their own turf.

Bernardo was never tried for the Scarborough rapes, to the disappointment of senior Crown attorney for Scarborough Mary Hall (known as Maximum Mary). Hall also wanted to prosecute Homolka for her participation in one of the rapes. Her vociferous objection to a second plea bargain that gave Homolka immunity for crimes including that rape got Mary Hall removed from her office.

This was under an NDP Ontario government. Such is the way that left wing governments operate,

Thanks for the background. I know only what I read on Wikipedia about the murders/rapes. They cite several cases of police incompetence and presumption that lead them to ignore and release Bernardo.

Your post backs up some of that with the added liberal twists. Either way it is a failure of government to protect the people. If the police, prosecutors and judges were companies they’d have been sued into oblivion.

This case also shows just how badly we need the death penalty and I would have voted to fry both of them. The horror they cause is life long for both the survivors and the families.

....I know everyone is now trying to pin every mysterious disappearance and unsolved murder on Russell Williams, and I know this is highly far-fetched (since Lachlan is not female), but I think it's something that can be looked at, if only just to rule RW out.....Dr. Jerry Sovka, an Alberta farm kid who married Williams' mother when the boy was 7, took his family from Toronto to Montreal to South Korea to Hawaii as an engineer with Atomic Energy Canada Ltd.

I'm seriously curious if Russell Williams is responsible for the disappearance of nuclear scientist Lachlan Cranswick.

Turns out that both Russell's father and stepfather worked at the same place, lived in the same small Canadian town of Deep River, and shared an interest in curling.

I'm wondering if Lachlan Cranswick may have represented the "Perfect Son," something which Russell Williams could never even aspire to, and finally hostility & intense jealousy and blazing hatred grew to uncontrollable homicidal bounds?

The above link was to a websleuths thread about the mysterious disappearance of Lachlan Cranswick; postings from it were also posted to a thread about Russell Williams, located here:

..or a gentle male target.

Someone you know well scenario. Know their routine, their habits. Someone that could bear witness to your past crimes. Most researchers agree serial killers have a minimum of 3-4 victims...Consequently, some victims have a personal [?] relationship with their killers. Sexual motives can't be dismissed. It is about the "power" and humiliation of the victim.

Interesting to note that Ted Kaczynski, the "Unabomber", wrote a manifesto he claiming he wanted society to return to a time when technology was not a threat to its future, asserting that "the Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been (or could be in the future) a disaster for the human race."(course that sort of compares to Starks going after the IRS Federal Government building in Austin)

..and of course you are right in your thinking.

Guess we just follow the story.
