Report: LeBron wants to be a Laker

According to sources close to Phil Jackson, LeBron James has expressed interest in joining the Los Angeles Lakers.

"LeBron wants to win. He's a smart guy, and Phil loves LeBron, absolutely LOVES him," according to the report. Obviously, there is way too much involved with a situation like this for one blurb, but if the report holds water then look for this to become a big storyline in the upcoming days.

Nothing like a snowy winter to make the sunbelt look good.

Reminds me of when the 76’ers had McGinnis and Erving and everyone thought they would waltz to an NBA title but they ran into a Portland trailblazer team that defined team basketball.

Does anyone watch the “thug & crips” league anymore? I stopped >10 years ago - very unentertaining...March madness far better!

Good point. I also don't think that LeBron/Kobe would be unstoppable. But, if true, I do think this highlights the biggest difference between LeBron and Jordan. Jordan would NEVER have entertained playing with either Byrd or Magic. Jordan wanted to beat the best player who hopefully was playing on the best team. LeBron just doesn't seem to have that "killer" instinct. He's too eager to be everyone's friend.

James and Bryant on the same team? I don't see how that would work. There isn't enough time in a game for both of them to get the number of touches they think they're entitled to. Kobe looks at his teammates as his supporting cast. Even the zen master, Phil Jackson, couldn't make that work.

Only thing is, the NBA title this year is likely to be between the Lakers and the Cavs, even without LeBron playing for the Lakers.
However, I am going to treat this runour with a large pinch of salt. I just don't see it happening in view of salary caps.

They would have to tear the team apart to deal with the salary cap.

When the Lakers had Elgin, West and Wilt, we proposed that they be allowed to play with three balls.

LeBron isn’t coming to the Lakers, this report is bogus. Would I like to have LeBron as a Laker, sure, but we can’t afford him, simple as that. Plus I don’t think I would enjoy watching LeBron go to the free throw line 30 times per game, makes the game kinda boring

NBA made a good move switching to zone defenses back in 2001 but they added the 3-second rule for defensive players in the paint. It’s stupid and pretty much kills the effectiveness of zone and any concept of defensive strategy.

I prefer watching Syracuse play matchup zone than any NBA game which is all boring 1v1.

I just was rereading an old ‘Sport Magazine’, from my extensive collection of mid to late 40’s, then fifties and sixties of those magazines with those three greats on the cover. you are right on the money. what a time for the NBA but I have not followed it since the GREAT Jerry West ret. in late ‘74. flat out the greatest clutch player, and not just his shooting if you followed his career, but all around excellence.

of course it is and has been Jerry West on that particular logo since it first was introduced. no player other than the GREAT Jerry West should ever be pictured on it either I believe. besides his great pro years, his high school and college years were outstanding also. throw in ‘60 Olympic gold and his first rate front office work and you have the greatest all around overall basketball career in history I believe. in my collections I own at least one issue minimum of ‘SPORT’ magazine that had ‘Mr. Clutch’ on the cover, and all the issues that just ‘story featured’ him inside also. I also have many, but not all, ‘SPORTS ILLUSTRATED’ issues with him to. Jerry West fan here since day one but I guess that is easy to see! have a good day.
