Caddie says he’s angry at Tiger over scandal

Williams says he knew nothing about affairs, is mad about media reaction.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand - Tiger Woods’ caddie said he knew nothing about the golfer’s extramarital affairs and was angry with him over the scandal.

Steve Williams told TV3’s “60 Minutes” program Wednesday that he also is bitter at the reaction toward him from the media and members of the public.

“It’s been the most difficult time of my life, no two ways about it, because every single person believed that I should know or did know or had something to do with it,” Williams said. “I knew nothing, that’s my answer. I don’t have to clarify or extend that answer, I knew nothing.”

Who knows what to believe. Maybe he didn't know. But, given much of Woods' "activity" was taking place while he was on the road, I'm skeptical.

Wasn't the caddie mistress #21?

Easy to lose track if you ask me.

Sure Williams is angry - every week Tiger stays away from the game he’s losing a lot of money.

May I remind all that Tiger's original caddy, when he first came out on the PGA tour, was named "Fluff"

Nuff said..

Is he going to stay on for Tiger, assuming Tiger gets back on the links? Seems like it would be in his best interest to have no comment at all on any of it.

So I jump ship in Hong Kong and make my way over to Tibet, and I get on as a looper at a course over in the Himalayas. A looper, you know, a caddy, a looper, a jock. So, I tell them I’m a pro jock, and who do you think they give me? The Dalai Lama, himself. Twelfth son of the Lama. The flowing robes, the grace, bald... striking. So, I’m on the first tee with him. I give him the driver. He hauls off and whacks one - big hitter, the Lama - long, into a ten-thousand foot crevasse, right at the base of this glacier. Do you know what the Lama says? Gunga galunga... gunga, gunga-galunga. So we finish the 18th and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice.”

Who cares if he knew or not? What’s he to do? Rat out Tiger? Why is it his responsibility at all?

“I’m a straight-up sort of person. If I had known something was going on, the whistle would have been blown.”

I'm no fan of what Woods did but its a little disturbing to hear that this guy would have "blown the whistle." He should be like the palace guard--as long as nothing seriously illegal is going on, he should see nothing, hear nothing and say nothing.

Considering what has been reported about this guy’s nasty, gruff demeanor and character, I would have a hard time believing anything he said. And what is he supposed to say, assuming he still wants his job? Maybe he’s just angry that Tiger got caught.

From what I’ve heard, the press can’t stand him because of his attitude toward them in the past. A lot of golf fans don’t like him either. They think he’s a thug.

Steve Williams is married. What else can he say without catching hell from his own wife?

If he admits that he knew what was going on, Elin would force Tiger to drop him as his caddy.

There's A LOT of truth to that, I'm sure. Plus, he's seen what Elin is capable of, he's probably a scared ;)

I agree. But, steve does a job and when the job is done he goes home or his own way. There does not seem to be any evidence that the two of them socialized together.

While in the country a few months ago, I read that he is the highest paid sportsman in New Zealand!

"While in the country a few months ago, I read that he is the highest paid sportsman in New Zealand!"

The standard pay for a US Tour caddie is 5% of total winnings, increasing to 10% of prize money for a win. Given how much Tiger wins each year, and the size of these purses, I bet Williams easily makes something north of $500K a year.
