The child will not be allowed to re-enroll next year at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School. The Denver Archdiocese posted a statement Friday that the parents are "living in open discord with Catholic teaching...."

Why didn’t they just transfer the student? You know, like they do with the priests who get caught “living in open discord with Catholic teaching....”

“the parents are “living in open discord with Catholic teaching”

But that’s not really the child’s fault. Is the mission of the church no longer to save souls.

If ever there were a child that needed to be at this school it is this one.

The school is free to make its own rules.

Obama hasn’t gotten around to ending freedom of association YET. It is on their list I am sure.

Hmmmm. I agree with the Archdiocese on some level, but I wonder if they also kick students out who are born of single moms? Or divorced couples?

Perhaps it would be better to offer this child the example of children from families living a Christian life. I dunno. My kids went to Catholic High School and they had lots of students there who were from non-Catholic families, including scholarship families. It was considered part of their outreach.

At least the school has that option.

For now.

The McCains and Cheneys support gay marriage and sodomy.

A Christian education is not just at school. Many of them also factor in the home life and consider it to be as important, if not more so, to the successful outcome of the student as is the school life. The draw back is of course the kid may grow up anti-catholic if not anti-Christian.

Which is precisely why the child needs to be exposed to Christian beliefs outside of the home.

Terrible decision by the school.

I bet this is going to cause all Hades to break loose. I can see how this would present a problem for the school. How do you deal with gay parents without tacitly endorsing their life style? It is not as if this student has no options. He can always find another school that will have no qualms about homosexuality.

This boy in my kids kindergarten class asked if he could kiss another boy.

The boy is on track to be a priest... in the Vatican one day!

Totally agree. I thought the Catholic position was they don’t support or condone homosexuality, but they also don’t persecute you over it anyway.

The school should have the option, but I think they are making a bad decision.

Oh horrors. I hope the diocese has good insurance as they, without knowing any details, may have just been set up for a huge law suit.

Thank about it! What "openly gay" parents would send their child to a school where the church is openly judgmental of their chosen life style?

Agree. Call the parents in and tell them they don’t support their life style, but they will let the child stay, but understand the Catholic position will be taught.
