Why didn’t they just transfer the student? You know, like they do with the priests who get caught “living in open discord with Catholic teaching....”

“the parents are “living in open discord with Catholic teaching”

But that’s not really the child’s fault. Is the mission of the church no longer to save souls.

If ever there were a child that needed to be at this school it is this one.

The school is free to make its own rules.

Obama hasn’t gotten around to ending freedom of association YET. It is on their list I am sure.

Hmmmm. I agree with the Archdiocese on some level, but I wonder if they also kick students out who are born of single moms? Or divorced couples?

Perhaps it would be better to offer this child the example of children from families living a Christian life. I dunno. My kids went to Catholic High School and they had lots of students there who were from non-Catholic families, including scholarship families. It was considered part of their outreach.

The McCains and Cheneys support gay marriage and sodomy.

I bet this is going to cause all Hades to break loose. I can see how this would present a problem for the school. How do you deal with gay parents without tacitly endorsing their life style? It is not as if this student has no options. He can always find another school that will have no qualms about homosexuality.

Oh horrors. I hope the diocese has good insurance as they, without knowing any details, may have just been set up for a huge law suit.

Thank about it! What "openly gay" parents would send their child to a school where the church is openly judgmental of their chosen life style?

Unfortunately, there aren’t many details at the source, however, one must assume that the issue had to come to the school’s attention, which to me implies some kind of behaviour that made it impossible for them to ignore the situation. In other words, they were put in a position where they had to make a decision to protect the other children and make clear to the parents what is and is not acceptable.

This is the correct decision. The other students in the school should not be allowed to tacitly get the wrong idea about the nature of the family or marriage, which is what happens if you just look the other way on this stuff.

Parents are the first educators of their children, and it makes no sense to have parents teaching the opposite of the Church’s values at home, while sending him to a Catholic school.

First off, guardian is a more appropriate term than parent.

Good for them (AOD). Maybe the parents should open up a gay school for children of gay parents.

“A Catholic school in Colorado is kicking out a preschooler because the child’s parents are lesbians.”

No child’s “parents” can be lesbians. At most, only one of these lost women is the child’s parent.

Regarding the decision, it is the school’s right. I am not a Catholic, but am Christian, and I think these decisions are tough calls for religious schools.

I think it depends upon what the mission of the school is. If the primary mission or a big part of the mission (other than education of course) is outreach to the poor, evangelism, or other such objectives, the child should probably allowed to stay.

If the priority is on providing an educational environment that shelters children of the faith from the exposure to the evils of the world and teaches them the faith, it makes sense to expel the child, though it is unfortunate that the child should suffer for the parent’s sin.

I can respect either view of faith based schools.

I don’t like this policy. The sins of the fathers (mothers) should not be visited upon the children.

This child can only benefit from a full Catholic education. It’s preschool, for Pete’s sake. How is a sweet little preschooler going to corrupt anyone?

The parents shold find a good Montessori school for the little one.

Sometimes I don’t understand the thinking of Catholic Bishops.

This is what our dear gay friends are doing to the church. The Catholic Church in DC is ending its foster parent organization because of gays.
