COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- Two University of Missouri students have apologized for scattering cotton balls outside the Black Culture Center in an incident that heightened racial tensions during Black History Month.
Nineteen-year-old freshman Sean Fitzgerald and 21-year-old senior Zachary Tucker were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of hate crimes and possible felony tampering....

I think it's time a massive class action suit be filed against all of the colleges and universities in the country for deprivation of rights. Educational facilities have turned into gulags completely void of any Constitutional rights, run by gestapo administrators who are backed up by cops willing to felony arrest... literally... for suspicion of thought crimes for scattering cotton balls... (I can't believe this has actually happened in America...).

This is a blatant, racist hate crime! It’s so blatant, I actually had to read the thread comments before I figured out why cotton balls could be considered hateful. Seriously. I was wondering to myself, “why cotton balls?” I guess it has something to do with slaves picking cotton.
Hate crimes penalize thought (or suspected thought). It shouldn’t be criminal to offend someone. Actual assault is a different matter:
Assault: an intentional act by one person that creates an apprehension in another of an imminent harmful or offensive contact.
If the cotton balls truly made the black students apprehensive that they were in IMMINENT danger of being physically attacked (harmful or offensive CONTACT), then a crime was committed. The beauty of laws against assault is that they provide EQUAL protection from all citizens regardless of race.
