Vanity - Best Movie Download Site

Posted on 03/06/2010 8:52:51 PM PST by jettester

I am looking for Freeper input on their experiences with websites that download full-length movies, mostly to purchase but able to rent if needed. I have various devices that I would like to play them on including an iPhone, PalmTX and of course, my computer. My preference would be to download them to an SD Card (or similar) and use them when my family and I are on the road, etc. Does anyone have any favorites or recommendations to point me to? It appears some sites have a membership and allow you download multiple movies while other sites charge per download. Thanks.

www.hulu.com is pretty good. Besides some good movies (once in a while), the have good TV shows. For example, 159 episodes of the original Dick Van Dyke show!

Netflix’s low budget plan is $8.99 per month. For that you get one movie mailed to you at a time and you can watch content on an unlimited basis on their website (I am watching the BBC’s Robin Hood right now). They have a pretty wide-ranging library of movies and tv shows, a good percentage of which you can watch on the web. First run movies you generally have to request be mailed to you.

Almost forgot, you can sign up right now for free. If you don’t like it, then you have two weeks to cancel before they start charging you.

I have that plan and I'm watching "Signs" with Mel Gibson right now!

But he/she? is not looking to have a DVD mailed to them. They want movies that can be downloaded onto the computer. Or do you mean to rip a rented DVD?

I’m trying to convince my wife to cancel our cable based on what we can watch on Netflix, Hulu and Fancast.

Try these Yahoo search results for: ‘movies’, ‘online’, ‘download’:
http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=movies++online+download&ei=UTF-8&fr=yff35ck

And as someone above suggested, iTunes. They have lots of movies, most, if not all, are downloads. I don’t think they do any business through snail mail.

I would like to download them to keep/own. It appears some sites cater to specific formats (iTunes for one I believe) limiting the device I might be able to play them on.

Speaking of signs, where's all the guns? Nobody blasted those monkeys? We gotta try 'n beat 'em wit a baseball bat and water?

If that really happened, we'd see a tape of a birthday party in Jamestown, Tennessee, and an alien would walk into the opening. Then you'd see his head explode. Then Bubba Junior would come into the picture grinning from ear to ear, holding the Remington 870 Grandma gave him for Christmas. That's how it would really play out.

They would have been here about 15 minutes before Americans opened up with our 100 million guns.

Netflix basic 8.99 pm service allows you to download them. You can, at the same time, get two (not one) DVD’s mailed to you at a time, and rip them to anything you like. They also have a pay service that works with set tops, and can be converted other formats, like iTunes.

Personally, I very much enjoy Netflix, I think it’s a good value. I have downloaded movies, and converted them using the free video downloader FireFox plugin, and then burned them to DVD.

Have fun.

I don’t know if there’s many sites that’ll allow you to download movies for free. I believe there may be various ‘tricks’ for doing it on sites that’ll let you watch full length movies, but I don’t know how it’s done. You would probable then have to convert it to a practical format for your intended usage.

Do you have the free version of RealPlayer? If so, I believe it comes with a free format converter. I have it now, but I'm not 100% positive I got it with the free player or with a 14-day free trial on an upgraded version.

If you don’t have one already, you can find free ripping programs on the internet via trusted sites like download.com. Most, though, only allow you a limited number of rips on their free version.

Blockbuster is the same pricve as netflix with the added benefit of returning the movies you got through the mail to the store and getting a free 5 day movie rental. Works for me.
