It has been suggested (and I surely agree) that this census needs to be modified.
There is a list as long as your arm (well - long enough) asking each individual to list their race. Since we are (Supposed to be) a color blind society it has been suggested, and I strong concur, that on this census you ignore this and choose (OTHER) when you come to this question.
And - put "AMERICAN" in the blank spot for race. ie. (OTHER - AMERICAN)
I fervently also further suggest emailing every one your email list to have them do the same. Let the government get the point that we are AMERICANS first and foremost.

as I have listed for decades.
All the census is required to have is how many people are in the house. Thats all I’m filling out.
Not only American as race, also mark “N/A per the Constitution” on the rest of the sections.
I’ve got my paternal ancestry (from all over the British Isles and Cherokee Indian) and my Mom is German and Polish so I’ve decided to put down “ American/European Mutt” as my race.
Also, I’m going to make copies of the census before I mail it in. This way should a census worker show up on my doorstep all I will do is hand them a copy of what I mailed in and shut the door in their face.
I think they have to try to find you and ask you the questions 3 times, then they go to neighbors to dig for info. I know cuz I worked on it in 2000.
Many did not answer the door. I was stuck going back the 3 times and then asking neighbors!
Many neighbors will not go there either, so... I had to then make my best guess. That was the way we were trained.

But if you mail it back, they ought not be knocking on your door.
If you hand them the copy, I wonder if that was part of the training, haha. We just had our list of people that had not sent their forms in.
I enjoyed the work for the most part as it was my first job when I had a 7 mos old baby and my husband completely ditched me at that point.
It was a flexible job for me and got me out working.
Don’t worry if they knock, just let them do it and no big deal.
I think I’ll be Hispanic/NotWhite this year. Being a Native American was kinda boring.

If I understood my Bible correctly, we are all of the “Noahic” race. To be more specific, we could report descendance from Shem, Ham, and/or Japheth.

Exactly! .....Works well for me, since my maternal grandmother’s surname was HUMAN.
See, I’ve got a problem with this — I don’t KNOW my “race”/ethnicity, etc... etc... I mean I LOOK Caucasian, but I’m adopted so I really don’t know without a doubt that I am. Only problem is that the government knows more about the answer to this question than I do. [Oh, and last time I wrote down Adoptee American in the “Other” section — they don’t like that answer either. The Census taker and I had a “nice” chat 10 years ago...]
While I admit I’m being a bit “difficult” this just highlights the utter STUPIDITY of these questions. And, another reason why the government shouldn’t be asking all these invasive questions under the guise that if we don’t answer our “community may not get the money its entitled to”.

“I hereby affirm that the provisions of Title 13 ``requiring’’ me to disclose my race, personal financial data, birthdate, or any other personal, private information to the Bureau of the Census, an agency of the United States government; constitutes an unreasonable, unwarranted search of my person, house, papers, and/or effects; and a governmental invasion of the sanctity of my home and the privacies of life. As such, these provisions violate the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution, and are thus wholly void and I am not bound to obey them.
I have completed the only those sections of the Census form pertaining to the Constitutionally-mandated actual enumeration, as follows:
1. The actual number of people living at the address printed on the form, excluding untaxed Native Americans;
2. Age of each person in accordance with US Const. Amendment XIV, Section 2.
3. Sex of each person, in accordance with US Const. Amendment XIV, Section 2.
I have thus fulfilled my obligation to the attainment of the actual enumeration of the populace of the United States.
Any fine or other sanction that is levied by any office or organization stemming from the unconstitutional provisions of Title 13 in connection with my response to this or any other Census-related questioning will be challenged in a court of law.”
