AppleInsider has rounded up its stable of "people familiar with the matter" and squeezed them for info on Cupertino's plans for the near term.
Firstly, they've heard that a 27-inch version of the currently available 24-inch LED Cinema Display is on its way, sporting a 2,560 x 1,440 resolution and targeted for release "by June."
The more exciting tip from those in the know, however, relates to the well aged Mac Pro and its future upgrade path. Apple has apparently firmed up plans to offer 6- and 12-core options (to replace the current 4- and 8-core variants), though the star of the show internally is said to be Intel's Xeon 5600, rather than the similarly specced Core i7-980X that had been rumored.
This seems to be motivated by the fact the i7 beast can't do dual-CPU configurations, which are necessary to offer a dozen cores. Pricing for the single Xeon CPU model is expected to be close to the current $2,499 starting sticker, but release dates still elude us

And I say that as an old school Mac Evangelist, back when Mac's were these cute little boxes.. Now that we've finally "won" that battle, I can't stand the current fans.
Its a real shame, you know. When you read the comments to articles on popular computer websites, its ALWAYS full of such fanaticism. From the Linux geeks, Microsoft Believers, Apple Heads.. its just like politics.....
Its just like the automotive world. A Chevy Nova can get you all the same places that a Mercedes S-Class can but it sure isn’t as well designed or as much of a pleasure to use.

12 core processors! I wasn’t so long ago that this kind of computing power was limited to national assets. Now any old schmoe can have one in his home for a quarter of the price of some of the first home systems. We live in amazing times.
Personally I prefer PCs but I saw this and thought the Mac guys might get a kick out of it.
I bought a new laptop last month with an i7 processor, man what an improvement. We do live in amazing times FRiend.

4th poster seconds 3rd poster's remarks 2 minutes later.
9th post calls Mac users "insecure fanboys"
So, out of 14 total posts as of this time, (granted a small sample) it's 21% insults against Mac users with a grand total of zero insults against folks who use Windows systems.
Is this really necessesary? I can understand calling Pelosi, Obama, or Biden nuts for being socliast whackjobs, but it's really kind of inappropriate here in this context. Perhaps it might be somewhat understandable if the subject matter of the posted article was making fun of how virus prone windows is or something similar, but it is just a post about coming features of new Macs. Noone is claiming that you're not going to be seeing the exact same processors in systems that run windows.
Can we just cut the name-calling out? The comments are really not constructive, and some of us are just tired of it.

As the 4th poster, I’d say if your skin is that thin, you sure dont need to be carving no apple in it, thats for sure. LMAO.
Really it’s the Windows users who’re crazy by Einstein’s definition - doing the same thing over and over while expecting different results.
Windows continues to be a quagmire of malware, tweaking, and things that don’t work quite right.
Macs offer a much better experience, and these days if you must run a Windows program or two they can easily accomodate that as well, while completely isolating any problems from the rest of the system.
Macs are easily the most flexible computer available, running Mac, Windows and POSIX software seamlessly under the best user interface available. It’s also the premier software development platform, including enabling over 100,000 iPhone apps.
Macs may cost a little more up front, but the quality, lack of problems, ease of use and excellent bundled software MORE than make up for the difference!
You can even download the software development suite at no cost, compared to hundreds of dollars for Visual Studio.

Macs are gaining marketshare by leaps and bounds. Apple is selling premium systems at premium prices, while the rest of the industry races for the bottom. Who’ll have the better R&D budgets down the road (or now for that matter).
Apple is being managed brilliantly.
