I had the bold/ill advised idea to buy an heirloom tomato at the supermarket and attempt to grow the seeds contained therein. I know that GMO crops do not breed true, and as a budding cynical survivalist, I wanted to have seeds that would perpetuate themselves forever.

I did TOO well, and have 25 healthy plants, and have been giving them away to friends and even liberals.

Viva spaghetti sauce!

We have a local Co-Op and their prices are high for some items. But they carry items that I can't find elsewhere and the local "so called" nuseries are basicaly nick-nack shops and pricy. One might think with the increased interest in gardening that someone would get a clue and crank up a real nursery.

I got outside and did some tilling yesterday afternoon (been very nice here this whole week) and am planning on starting Spring veggies this weekend, with a few indoor starts also (chiles).

I am so looking forward to fresh garden veggies.

It will be in the low 70's here in Centeral Mississippi today.

Nearly that warm in New England today and tomorrow...running twenty-five degrees ABOVE normal.

Sweet.

Man y'all sure get up early! It's just cracking daylite here on Humboldt Bay. It's currently 46 degrees and clear skies with this ten day Forecast. I'm torn between the Nascar race and gardening this weekend but it looks like Mother Nature may make the decision for me as there is the possibility of rain at Bristol Tn Sunday...

I have some shallots that need separating and planting into a larger bed which I will do this weekend. Spinach and lettuce is growing like crazy.

I have some Sunmaster tomatoes that are close to a foot tall and getting ready to bloom. I’d say spring has sprung in central Texas.

I still have not seen any mesquite or pecans coming out yet, but most other trees have. That usually means no more freezes.

The Purple Martins are here for their nesting. I hope they eat all the mosquitoes again. We didn’t have many blood suckers last year. Of course, that may have been due to the prolonged drought too.

LOL... I could tell as there were only 18 posts when I logged in rather then the usual 55 or 60. Here is yesterdays gardening column in the local Fish Wrap. I think it is a little over the top on the organic end...

Thanks for the link to Ronninger's Potato (and onion and garlic) farm. Ronningers

I'm going to try some potatoes this year in Wisconsin. Does anyone have any suggestions for ome good varieties? Ronnigers has so many, but some are already sold out.

Our growing season is short, so I thought I'd try an early season and a midseason variety. As always, I'm looking for help.

ome=some

Back to my request for suggestions on varieties of potato to order: I definitely want one, or two, reds and another one, as well. I’m going to try to grow them in bags, or buckets.
