I'm going to set aside the fact that the government wants me to fill out my short form and mail it back today; even though the questions and the count, are dated April 1st, 2010. If I answer today, my answers could be considered false, since April 1st, has, indeed, not happened yet.
But I digress.
What bothers me is the race issue - how race seems to be the color of one's skin only when "white" or "black".
If you are Asian, no color choice is provided, if one is Hispanic, no color is provided.
What's wrong with this picture? If color is so important, why doesn't the government ask: Are you Red, Yellow, Black or White? That would seem the logical course.
For the two people in my household, in all fairness to government racism, I chose "some other race". Person 1 German. Person 2 Irish.
It's the truth after all.
Is Obama filling out the census? It’s a Federal Crime to lie. What will he say about whether he is a natural citizen? What race will he claim? Will he claim he owns his home?
That's my first problem with the census. All questions are “as of” Aril 1st, 2010. Mailing it before then would make anyone filling it out immediately (as requested) a liar.
Regarding your question, not all Hispanics are brown. You would be surprised how many Hispanics are “white” and “black”. Although, I do appreciate my year-round tan:)
I put American!
I didn’t see any sense in putting down what American Indian tribe you were from. Why? Also there were three choices for black Americans. African American, Black or Negro. Aren’t these all the same?
That was actually my point. If you are of Hispanic origin, though, you can't check "white" right? The only real color choice is black or white. Our government is being very divisive. We should only be counted is "people".
True, but at lot of the responses from the census are used for research, and the impact of policy on demographic groups is always sought after.
I can see their reasoning, though I don't agree with it. It is about subsidies for oppressed races.
Good! I almost did the same, but thought I’d play their game. Maybe they’ll call me.
Isn’t German a race? or Irish?
To be honest, I only skimmed the questions past the first “how many live here” question. Anything else is none of their business.
I like how the form says that you’re required to answer by law or something like that.
Excuse me, the law is that congress shall have an enumeration every 10 years. How that happens is their problem not mine.
It’s also apparently tied to how much money your district gets (or so they say) not just for calculating the number of representatives.
I figured they have enough money, especially from me, so I just ditched it.
Was that wrong?

So very true. I had a co-worker once who looked Irish until he introduced himself. My current bldg manager and her husband, could EASILY pass for white.
True. But the census is not about demographic groups and research- or it shouldn't be. It is about representation for the "people".
You’d be surprised. It’s a very powerful tool. Historically, wasn’t it used to asses taxes?
LOL! I'm sure the gvernment just didn't realize what they were doing. They are so afraid that no one will answer that they jumped the gun.
I just wrote over the top of the question “Hispanic is not a race.” and left the answer blank.
We are putting “American” as our choice. Won’t go any other way. Let em call. Let em try to come by. I’ll block the calls and won’t answer the door...
There is only one race. Human. Except for the other. Progressives.
Was that wrong?
Not in my book! If I had received the long form, I would have done the same. And if some candy-behind came to my door asking, I'd have said "it's in the mail".
