Without Maiden, it's JLS pulling their shirts up while Clare Balding dances with Mr Blobby.

And when future historians identify when the western world was left in the dust by China, they will look at the end of the 2008 Olympics, when China's jaw-dropping, CGI-enhanced performance was followed by the UK

Not as bad as the fun, informal Canadian closing ceremony, with its giant inflatable beavers and huge table hockey players, being interrupted by the ponderously serious Russian performance of a symphony orchestra in Red Square and ballerinas flying around. Serious buzzkill.

Iron Maiden is one of my all time favorite bands. I just bought my tickets to see them up here in Seattle during the summertime. They came here two years ago on their Somewhere back in time tour, and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. I’ve seen them live a few times ago, but they were in rare form on this tour.

But I think they would be the perfect headliner of the closing ceremony, rather than the opening.
Closing ceremony is much more of a party atmosphere. Maiden would be perfect for that.
Opening ceremony is going to be filled with pop artists and probably a big schlocky Andrew Lloyd Webber fest with Sarah Brightman dressed like some forrest goddess flying around the stadium on wires.

My mother threw my brand new Number Of The Beast album out the back door and into the snow when I kept replaying the beginning of Number of the beast. She never did anything like that before but that song made her lose control for a minute.

“...A rickety, balsa wood bus trundled on, then fell apart like a cheap circus prop.”

When was this? I didn’t see it.

Closing ceremony at the Chinese games where the city getting the next games puts on a little pre-show. Like the Russians did during Vancouver closing.

ThThey brought out this cheap looking doubledecker bus which had a roof that Jimmy page raised out of the top of. It came off looking real sloppy, but then again, just like with the opening ceremony, the Chinese went over the top with the production and it would of been hard for anyone to really not look amatuerish by comparison.

I’m actually really worried about what’s going to be rammed down the worlds throats by the liberals during these London ceremonies. Vancouver went soo over the top with their indian tribal gaga, I’m worried the London show is going to turn into a 3 hour liberal apologyfest to the world for Englands existence.

My favorite band as well!! Of course, it’ll never happen. They’ll push some black rapper or whiny effeminate pop crap before they do a metal performance. And I don’t know Maiden’s politics, but I doubt they’re leftists. I always hoped they could play the Super Bowl halftime show. They are the greatest live performers around that give an amazing show. The WHO? Snoooore.... Jimmy Page, the guy looked like he was 80.

Can’t find the video for it. They must have been so embarrassed they scrubbed it.

Already joined the group on Facebook.

I’d get tickets to the Olympics just to see them open.

Bruce Dickeson is a pilot (he flew the band’s tour jet recently). He flew humanitarian aid missions into Bosnia I think some years back.

I mean it wasn’t some total disaster, but it did kind of come off looking like a badly organized thing with cheesy props. Like I said, I’m really worried the London ceremonies are going to be hijacked by the liberals and turn it into a “we apologize to the world for existing” multi-culti fest.

These guys know how to tour.

Bruce is a fully certified commercial pilot and works for Astraeus Airlines. The band leased the Boeing 757 from them. Bruce was one of the captains flying the plane for the whole tour.

And the plane was a great idea because they flew all over the world. It carried the band, the whole road crew, and the 12 tons of stage and band equipment. They designed the whole show so everything could fit in the plane.

They gave it a wicked paint job too.
