EDMONTON , Alberta, March 26 (UPI) -- Police said a pair of radio hosts may have incurred trespassing charges when they captured a peahen authorities have been chasing for days.

Dylan Wowchuk, a host of the "Pepper and Dylan" morning show on CHBN-FM, Edmonton, Alberta, said he and partner Robbie Gibson captured the bird on a rooftop Thursday and turned it over to city officials, the Edmonton Journal reported Friday.

Edmonton animal control officers had been chasing the bird for four days following its escape from its owner, a private citizen who received a fine of nearly $500 for keeping an illegal animal inside the city.

"We knew we had to get it down," Wowchuk said. "We're animal lovers and we knew it didn't have many chances left."

However, police said the pair may face trespassing charges for entering private property without permission in their pursuit of the avian.

"It appears to be doing better than what we would have expected for being out in the cold so long," Keith Scott, animal control coordinator for the city, said of the peahen. "There was a lot of stress placed on it with various people chasing it around."

The owner of the bird is now charged with finding it a new home, officials said. Scott suggested the owner may sell the peahen to the Valley Zoo, where it would join other birds of the same species.

I had a Peahen frequent my home for 2 years. It’s actually friendly. Some wild dogs probably killed it - it stopped showing up.

To think I could be facing a fine of some sort (Obviously, in my case, not trespassing) seems a bit wierd. A wild-life law wherein I had to report it or face fines, or that I couldn’t go near it for fear of something.

In Colorado the bears would come down from the forests occasionally and nest in a tree. I was told I was supposed to report it. Didn’t.

I bought some Peahen chicks from my local co-op to control insects in my garden, I raised them in a pen and released them one day only to have them take off to my neighbors farm where they stayed, roosting in his trees and eating the bugs in HIS garden. We had a good laugh about it.
