Far From Heaven (will we have our bodies in heaven?)
Newsweek (down in article) ^ | 3-25-10 | Lisa Miller

It's Easter—that most pleasant of springtime holidays—when children stuff themselves with marshmallows and stain their fingers with pastel dyes. In reality, of course, Easter is about something darker and more fantastic. It's a celebration of the final act of the Passion, in which Jesus rose from his tomb in his body three days after his execution, to reside in heaven with God. The Gospels insist on the veracity of this supernatural event. The risen Lord "ate barbecued fish [Luke] and walked through doors [John]," is how a friend of mine, an Episcopalian priest, puts it. This rising—the Resurrection—remains at the center of the Christian faith, the narrative climax of every creed. Jesus died and rose again so that all his followers could, eventually, do the same. This story has strained the credulity of even the most devoted believer. For, truly, it's unbelievable.

Well we are now knowing more about the next life, THANKS to people who go through near death experiences or NDE’s.

I believe we maintain our earthly body image in heaven.

An interesting side note to this discussion is that whenever a member of our family dreams of an elderly departed loved one, we ask the other "how did he/she look"?

In every single instance, we dream of that person looking as they did when they were about 35 or so.

I.E, our Dad, who was in his 90's and partially paralyed from a stroke appears to us looking young and healthy again.

AND he is always wearing the same thing in our dreams of him to us.

FWIW

"It's the same result, isn't it?"

Same result, but for different reasons. If God affects their sight so they can't recognize him, it implies that he would be recognizable without God affecting their sight.

It doesn't say he wasn't recognized by the disciples. He just scared the heck out of them. It implies he appeared suddenly. And it says they thought they were seeing a spirit. Which itself implies that they recognized him, for if he was flesh and blood but someone they didn't recognize why would they think he was spirit. Thomas doubted but not because Jesus didn't appear to be Jesus.

I imagine that if Ronald Reagan suddenly appeared to us, we would doubt it was him. We'd think it was a look-alike. We just don't see resurrected people very often. (Only Elvis can appear to people and be accepted for who he is. lol)

What's the scripture reference on the beach appearance?

Why would there be a need for sex in paradise?

IMHO muslims have the most tortuous and corrupted view of human sexuality of any cultural group in the world.

(To put that in perspective Irish Catholics come a distant 2nd)

I’ve always been fond of that passage from I Corinthians, but the King James Version is far more beautiful and poetic.

Well, okay...the point I'm trying to make is that I don't believe that Jesus came back as the same mangled and scorged body that hung on the cross. He is risen spirit at this point then, now and forever.

Yeah but I used the NIV this time because the KJ was not as easy to understand.

I just wonder how Mohammed dreamed up the sex aspect in the after life. There would be no need to procreate after all.

He had to motivate repressed young Muslims. The young men are not allowed to mingle naturally and learn about the opposite sex.

The culture forces women into horrific submission, in the case of the Taliban, women must live in houses with the windows painted black so that no one can see them not fully decked out in their head to toe blankets with the cut out peep holes.)

There is no such thing as FUN if you are a young Muslim male or female. The rules are FULL of hatred for the joys of being frivolous and silly, of being allowed to be free and make mistakes.

Promising virgins was a way get young me, full of natural hormonal zest, to strap on bombs and kill themselves for the cause.

Anyone who can understand Shakespeare, shouldn't have any problem with it.

But some man will say, How are the dead raised up? And with what body do they come? Thou fool, that which thou sowest is not quickened, except it die: And that which thou sowest, thou sowest not that body that shall be, but bare grain, it may chance of wheat, or of some other grain: But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds. There are also celestial bodies, and bodies terrestrial: but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars: for one star differeth from another star in glory. So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power: It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body. And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is the Lord from heaven. As is the earthy, such are they also that are earthy: and as is the heavenly, such are they also that are heavenly. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.

I suspect we'll be the age we spiritually “feel” deep in our souls... and that will change as we change.

The advantage of having a spiritual body rather than a “real” one is all the stuff we do to maintain the “water bag” won't have to be done... no farming, water works, plumbing, doctors, health care...

“I suspect we’ll be the age we spiritually “feel” deep in our souls.”

Here’s a hint. What did Jesus look like?

Gotta have something to do with the bodies we’ll have, seeing as though there probably won’t be any restaurants or anything to eat or any bathrooms.

Read the 21st chapter of John. I always took it to mean that Jesus was too far away from the boat for them to recognize Him. As soon as the boat got close enough to shore, they saw it was Him.
