Skip to comments. No Sex Please, I'm Neal McDonough...

Neal McDonough is a marvelous actor who elevates every role he plays, whether it's in Band of Brothers or Desperate Housewives.
So when he was suddenly replaced with David James Elliott 3 days into the filming on ABC's new series Scoundrels earlier this week, there had to be a story behind the story. The move was officially explained as a casting change. But, in fact, McDonough was sacked because of his refusal to do some heated love scenes with babelicious star (and Botox pitchwoman) Virginia Madsen.
The reason? He's a family man and a Catholic, and he's always made it clear that he won't do sex scenes. And ABC knew that. Because he also didn't get into action with Nicolette Sheridan on the network's Desperate Housewives when he played her psycho husband during Season 5. And he also didn't do love scenes with his on-air girlfriend in his previous series, NBC's Boomtown, or that network's Medical Investigation.
"It has cost him jobs, but the man is sticking to his principles," a source explained to me.

If it is true, I like and admire him even more.
I always admire those who stand up for their principles. Too bad there are none in government.
If true, he’s to be admired and respected.
Too bad pop culture does not hold him up as a role model and chooses, instead, the scumbags of the entertainment industry.
What do you mean there are no people in government with principles. There are plenty in it with principles, of course, they have all the wrong principles, but....
My answer to that one is: Why do you think there is so much divorce in hollywood? Try doing a love scene(pretend even) with a co-worker you find attractive and see how long your marriage lasts.
Me too. It’s refreshing to see some one from Hollywood stand by their principles...
Virginia Madsen is a smoking hot MILF.
I admire his ability of self-restraint, if not his decision.
Obviously, this is an opportunity for a stunt double. I offer my services - - which will require NO acting talent. ;^)
Ya’ll should check out the fantasy miniseries ‘Tin Man’. He played the lead character in a revisionist version of Wizard of Oz, where the tin man is so-called because he’s a cop and wears a tin star. Ends too abruptly but far better than the usual Syfy miniseries or feature event.
I must be getting old! She doesn’t look like a MILF to me, just a lady I’d like to ..... LILF.
Looking him up he was the blond man who played Lt Buck Compton on Band of Brothers. He was very good in the role.
As to his problem with the new role though, this makes little sense. The actors would be advised up front what sort of scenes would be required for the new role. If he couldn’t do love scenes, he had no business accepting the job.
Bailing on the producers on such short notice for such a cause will do him real harm. Hollywood might respect his principles but certainly not his professionalism.
Mr. Mime, you’re on. No dialogue . . . oh wait, you’re a mime. Perfect.
If you have principles, they won’t like you in Hollyweird
Good point MsLady. Now this is a man!
My answer to them is that when you pretend or “act” out a scene where someone is murdered, you do NOT actually murder the person! When a sex or “love scene” is done, you ACTUALLY kiss, feel up and make LOVE to the other person! There is a very LARGE difference!
This man has and wants a body of work that will allow him to look himself in the mirror each morning and live with himself.
Bravo and well done, Neal McDonough.
Neal McDonough and family at Time for Heroes
Actor Neal McDonough, 42, his wife Ruvé Robertson and children Morgan, 2, and Catherine Cate Maggie, 8 months, attended the A Time for Heroes Celebrity Carnival on Sunday, June 8th. The event benefited the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation and was held at the Wadsworth Theater in Los Angeles, CA
I really like him as an actor, but I tried watching “Tin Man” last night with him in it. Whoa, what a stinker. The story was okay, but the acting was less than stellar and the dialog was just downright painful.
Mrs. Prince of Space
I think we found your doppelgänger.
Problem is the make-up. Although she be fair-skinned, NOBODY is that white!
“Obviously, this is an opportunity for a stunt double. I offer my services - - which will require NO acting talent. ;^)”
I beg to differ. In your own mind you might not need acting talent but for the rest of us to watch I would wager you would need much direction to make it look.....appealing.
He is wearing a Tiger Woods hat. LOL!!!!!The irony.
Good for him. Integrity is a rare trait in Hollywood ... or in any public life, really (Tiger Woods, John Edwards).
Haven’t seen this guy in much — I think he was in a Star Trek movie several years back, and Minority Report. Haven’t watched Band of Brothers yet.
;^) It IS AFD!
MY EYES!!!! MY EYES!!!!
“Bailing on the producers on such short notice for such a cause will do him real harm. Hollywood might respect his principles but certainly not his professionalism.”
None of us knows the whole story...but usually actors only get the script a few days before shooting the TV show. So when he read the script...he said no can do. It would be the same as your boss asking you to do something criminal/immoral...does that require professionalism?
And in the long run, producers now know what he will and won’t do.
The reason? He’s a family man and a Catholic, and he’s always made it clear that he won’t do sex scenes. And ABC knew that
Amen to that!!!! Densel Washington also does the same thing.
I didn’t know that! Good for him.
Wow..they lost a great actor. He plays a really creepy bad guy. The show would be better WITH him, than with a “hot” sex scene. Sex scenes are stupid anyway. No one watches a show for them. If they want to watch sex, they fire up the computer and watch the real thing. People like stories.
The highest selling movies had NO sex in them at all.
When money is involved, there are few of us stick to our principles...sad commentary on our society.
We are all too worried about possibly losing our jobs, or getting fined. So, we cave in. We compromise. We don’t protest. We don’t speak up...we do not participate in civil disobedience. We don’t write a letter to the editor.
Perhaps they changed the role on him? I understand it happens a lot. From what I understand, he is upfront about his standards.
I remember years ago, Pat Boone refused to KISS a woman in a movie. It was a big deal at the time. He had told the producers his values, yet they thought they could talk him into doing it. ....he didn’t.
But, seems to me, he lowered his standards some years later.
You are absolutely correct and those traits are what the forces of evil, 0bamao and his minions play upon to seize and increase power.
I commend him for his principles, even if it meant his job, but I don’t understand why he would want to be a part of those shows in the first place.
I believe that actors, by their nature, want to play many roles, even the “heavy” who is the bad guy, because they KNOW it is not REAL violence that is going on. Now when it comes to playing because they are “playing” somebody else. When it comes to physically touching, feeling, stroking and even simulated sex, it is just a step too far for him to personally take.

What the heck, here's another article about the Actor with Values. He can be an example to everyone who's asked or ordered or told to do something they know to be immoral or going against their principals.
