I think there are two arguments to be made. One, yes, there are many who think he was born in Kenya and many who claim he told them he was. Two, this “son of the soil” business is just an old saying meaning his ancestors came from there. It doesn’t necessarily mean he, himself was born there. It has as little meaning as “homeland” does when applied to the eligibility question. He can claim the phrases were merely terms of speech.

“The country in which a person was born and usually raised, regardless of the present country of residence and citizenship.”

Even then, his father has to be a U.S. citizen for Obama to be a natural born citizen- he is not!
