A Theological Sports Question for FREEPERS

Posted on 04/12/2010 9:44:33 AM PDT by Dawebman

When Tiger Woods badly missed a shot Sunday during his Career Revival Tour at The Masters, CBS microphones clearly recorded him cursing the name of "Jesus Christ."

I thought Tiger was a Buddhist?

Asked about two strings that Tiger wears near his watch, "It's Buddhist. It's for protection and strength and I certainly need that," he told the Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman. He said he began wearing the Buddhist bracelet before he went into therapy treatment and said he will "absolutely" be wearing it at the Masters and forever.

In fact, Tiger attributes straying from Buddhism for losing control in his life: During an interview with "Faith & Reason" dated March 23, 2010, Tiger said, "I quit meditating, I quit being a Buddhist and my life changed upside down."

If Tiger is indeed still a Buddhist, why is he cursing the name of Jesus Christ?"

Shouldn't he have beeen cursing Buddha instead?"

So how's that "protection and strength" thing working out for you, Tiger?

Because he's a lost man who needs to turn from his paganism and get saved?

I was drawn in by what I thought would be a theological question worthy of thought.

Nope, just another Tiger wood’s thread.

Bad karma. If you meditate about it for a while, you'll understand.

Atheists routinely invoke the names God and Jesus when they are outraged.

Who cares about Woods? I am glad the focus of golf is back upon a man with proper perspective in his life: his family comes first. Phil Mickelson. I would be happy to see him win a 4th Masters (like Woods) next year and forgetting all about “Tiger” the detestable egoist.

For the same reason another mixed race “black” Muslim claims to be a Christian.

For some, Jesus Christ! is just an expletive with no meaning behind it.

Because all the good Zoroastrian profanities are copyrighted.

so what?

This is a good post.

Far too many people curse the name of “Jesus”, but they do not even realize that their own cursing indicates how they are tormented by their own separation from the Prince of Peace.

....Long sentence, but, hey.

I think the question is kind of pointless. Tiger Woods is a full-of-sh!t media construct, so there’s no reason to believe anything this moron says. If he weren’t one of the top golfers in the world nobody would care what he had to say.

Not to mention, muttering “Zoroaster” under your breath is archaic.

First, cursing the name Jesus is more likely cultural than anything, I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Second, as a Buddhist, Tiger shouldn’t be giving into anger like that. Of course, he isn’t a real Buddhist, he just practices that Hollywood version which basically means he does what he wants. If he were a real Buddhist, he would eschew his material possessions, not give into anger or fleshly desires, spend his time seeking enlightenment, not hookers.

Cursing "Jesus Christ" is practically an American colloquialism.

None of the boogeymen from the sky are going to save your golf game, or anything else for that matter.

That folks think that the one brand of made up superstition they use as their spiritualism is any more "real" than the next is a common logical fallacy endemic to humans.

Give me your wife’s name so I can use it in a vulgar and
salacious manner. If I did that to her face would you say
so what? I don’t think so. When someone we love is wronged
and demeaned for no reason it hurts. That’s the “so what”!

A lot of people who deny Christ like to use his name.
